I haven't played this map extensively, but I found it to be pretty interesting. Basically, there are 2 trucks carrying rockets driving through the desert, with 2 bridges connecting them. You can go through the bridges or on top of them (they are roofed, think of them like tunnels), but you can also use ramps that shoot you across to the other side. I was playing on a pub server that had really long rounds, so I spent some of my time spying and a lot of it engineering. I basically looked for exploits with teleporters, but I didn't find any. I strongly suggest putting it on the map list to try out.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

It's totally crazy with a bunch of people. In a good way!

Snipers are valuable on this map, not to mention powerful. Other strong classes on this map are Scouts, Engineers, and Demoman. Spy is okay too.

Unfortunately, every other class seems to be kind of useless. They are all still playable, just not as helpful.

Now for the actual map... the design is cool and they added a nice touch by making the map rumble visually. The only thing is that there isn't actually any sound of the rumbling and driving, which irks me.

The best part is when the person carrying the bag falls off one of the vehicles, dies, and leaves the bag dragging through the dirt until it returns to base.

I would argue that each class is played differently than normal except for those aforementioned classes. There are plenty of places to hide and ambush as Pyro, but he is used mainly for defense. Heavy becomes area denial, and medics are now paired with soldiers for rooting out and rushing snipers.

If only you had the Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device. Pop one on the cap point, throw the other ahead of the convoys, and time a jump so you grab the case and fall through the portal as it zips by.

Srsly, I bet they could've added a trigger zone that would return a case dropped within.

If you check out the description on the website, the case not respawning immediately is penalty for jumping off of the convoy.

Or being pushed/propelled off the convoy. Best tactic EVER.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

I'm not too happy with it. I'm not a good enough sniper, demo takes too long to get anywhere, and that leaves me with nothing to do but play spy and we all know that's a joke against anything but blinder-wearing soldiers.

Magna, stop wallowing in your own self-pity. I spied on that map and was successful. (That is, after my ping went down below 850.) There were plenty of places to decloak, disguise, and lose somebody chasing you. Snipers always leave their backs open and getting behind a train of guys going over a bridge means 3-4 backstabs.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

I believe this map is at the least largeley based on this ut2004 map there was, it was called convoy or something like that. It was actually kinda fun, it had a gametype like dustbowl on it, except no breaks after two points, just constant attacking and defending.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

We were playing this map today, I think my complaints are there were a lot of people who went sniper with seemingly no intention of working with their team to go after the intel. This led to a lot of scouts capping the intel because of lack of team coordination on both ends.

It's also far too large of a map. It probably works great on 32 player servers but we had it at like 7v7 or something.

It's an alright map overall in small doses, and if we have a full server.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

Convoy is a UT2k4 design; TF2 works very well on it, but you must play it differently from a TF2-style map.

Anyway, we went to Mach and that was even more atrocious. RED lost 0-3 because NO ONE even tried to get the BLU book. I touched it once and the rest was poor defenders waiting for all but two BLU guys to steamroll through.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

I agree that Convoy is best when played with a larger amount of people.

Re: ctf_convoy_v2

This map is a total server kill late at night. If the server isn't full when this map loads, it'll be empty by the time it finishes. Just no good for small player counts.
