Re: Vehicle Setup
Heh, i just stumbeld upon this thread and find it pretty interesting. I have a 2006 Honda Civic Si, which I autocross. So I am making similar adjustments to my car that you guys are speaking about in videogames.
Being a front wheel drive car, I fight understeer. Luckily, my car comes with a limited slip differential from the factory that transfers power to the outside wheel in a turn, reducing understeer dramatically. As mentioned, a bigger rear sway bar helps the car rotate as well. I'm not sure how the game duplicates this, but higher dampner settings in real life mean your car doesn't bounce around as much, giving you a better connection to the road. However, if you have serious camber changes in the track your racing on, this could lead to a wheel (or two) actually leaving the pavement, making bad things happen. And Tybalt, increasing tire pressure REDUCES grip, but increases turn in rate (how fast your car reacts to steering wheel changes). I have no idea if the game models this correctly though.

Re: Vehicle Setup
It's not permitting me to open your zipped files, says that they're corrupted. Perhaps try uploading them via the ingame menu? I'm going to tinker about some more.

As for car... sadly, my tired old '97 Neon, while belonging to a once competetive breed (though it never raced) just isn't up to any more rigorous, never mind competitive, driving. I need serious dough to bring it up to specs I'd feel confident with (something is liable to break or fall off right now). The last time I really drove it at high revs, speeds, and cornering forces (actually, the hardest I *ever* got to drive it), was for 3 laps on the Glen this summer. All regulated speeds (well, they tried ). Thunder Road Tour they called it. Thankfully I was dead last behind all the SUV's and minivans (I know... soccer moms on a racetrack... WTF???!!!). I just hung waaaaay back so I could have some room to wind it out. Lots of 'race to the traffic, and slow down to create racing room'. Never saw the pace car, so he never saw me. Can't wait for the day I have a car to go for real performace driving school and then track days there. ![]() Cool vids, btw Rocket. I can see why you're such a natural at this game.

Re: Vehicle Setup
So thats why he kicks my butt. I just use to street race in my Honda all the time, not the smartest thing I ever did. Luckily I never got caught and no one ever got hurt so I was lucky.
I am currently looking at buying a 914 to restore or an old 911.

My dad's restoring a Triumph TR3. He's got another 1.5 in pieces. I keep telling him we should restore it as a vintage racer and enter it into competition. Sure takes less work to fix a car up for racing vs. making it showroom pretty again. ![]()

Re: Vehicle Setup
If you really want to get hurt, try riding motorcycles! I endo'd in third gear two days ago... ouch. I also jumped an obstacle - right off the fireroad! My bike tumbled down hill a bit, clearing such a clear path through the dense brush that you'd have thought there were never any bushes there in the first place. Fortunately I just landed in a pile of rocks.
Seriously though, we're pretty careful when we go. My extensive padding has saved me numerous times.

Re: Vehicle Setup
LMAO!!
Actually, good to hear you've come away largely intact (though, you might have brained your damage somwehere to keep going out on those things ). Bikes are cool, and I'd really enjoy one (or 3). But I'd never feel safe enough on it to really drive flatout. I like knowing there's a ton of steel surrounding me. At the very least, I have a coffin already fitted and on site.

Re: Vehicle Setup
Oh i've done the bike thing too.
80 mph slide down the road on my back. It was like a really cool slip and slide but with more friction... and asphalt. Oh well, scars are like tattoos with better stories, eh?

Re: Vehicle Setup
LOL, yeah that'll get you good. I only ride dirt bikes so it's actually much safer - especially from a fatality point of view. Don't think I could ever touch a streetbike.
Let's have an informal standing order that if anyone hits the 1:00 mark on the second Mini sprint, they must immidiately make available both a hot lap and setup. Until then I'll be working on other races.
