I can only wish there is something like that out there, a Force Feedback Pedal that gives you feedback regarding the status of your tires (flat spot, deflation, wear) and brakes (overheating, disk warp).

Particularly with braking, I can never tell how hard to hit them.

The Driving Force Pro is advertised as a PS2-only wheel, but it's fully supported in the latest Logitech Wingman software on the PC.

There are *better* pedals, although no force feedback ones so far. There are some here, along with some higher-end non-force-feedback wheels: http://www.thomas-superwheel.com/. Just the pedals alone are $135, or $210 with a clutch. There are more at http://www.interactiveracing.com/Pedals/Speed7/ - these are over $400!

This is why there's so much buzz about the G25 - it's wheel is much like a DFP on steroids, it has the seperate shifter, AND it has pedals that are a big step up from the plastic ones we usually get, if not quite up to the Thomas, BRD and the like. A great value at $300 or so.

One tip for using the regular consumer pedals such as on the DFP or Momo - take your shoes off and wear socks when racing. You get MUCH better feel for the pedals this way. There's still no real feedback, but I don't seem to "stomp" as hard without the shoes on, and I can feel the position of the pedals better.

I'll second this whole heartedly. I learned of this from articles at SimHQ (excellent source on sim racing in general... all should check it out). I really do feel that I can modulate the pressure best be even just fine tuning with toe pressure, rather than full foot.

Yup, I think so. Right now I think we all have "automatic clutch" on, but you can turn that off if you have a clutch pedal.

Yep. I really wish my setup had a cluth pedal. I've been simulating it a little by using both feet for gas and brake and 'suggesting' the auto-clutch to work when I want it to (for braking downshifts only).

When on the brakes, I blip the gas at the same time as downshifting. This seems to noticably increase the revs over what the auto-assist normally provides and I end up with a smoother transition. Nothing I hate more than braking and downshifting and having the lower gear drag my rear wheels just enough to destabilize traction (I have enough problems with traction when the car is sitting in the garage and I'm nowhere near it.

If I had a clutch pedal, I'd be all proper over heel and toe.

C'mon G25!

I just know that better hardware will make me a better driver. Really.

Mirf - I was using a similar trick to that but having the auto clutch kick in by providing an upshift. Dropping a gear in a semi-auto car on a corner is treacherous stuff, as is powering down to quick on an exit. If things were getting a little wobbly i'd hit a quick upshift to help smooth things out.

That and I'm never getting in the mustang again if i can help it...

Yeah, I rarely ever downshift *in* a turn. Just like braking (and at the same time actually... easiest done using heel-and-toe, but hey, we've got no cluthces here

), it's best done in a straight line. Otherwise the engine compression (unless you've blipped the revs *just right* to match the road wheel spin) is going to cause a braking effect and potentially exceed the traction budget.

I have done the upshift-recovery if I found myself in a power oversteer exiting a turn. It's hard to control, but sometimes the only option.

Re: Mustang. Give the Shelby GT350 a whirl. It's still a Mustang, and it's still a big, heavy muscle car... but Shelby did make it into a proper race car (with better adjustments). There's other cars still out there better, but for a driveable Mustang, that's the one.
