Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
What a difference a high end server connection makes. While I was running practically the same machine for the old server, that fat pipe our new server sits on sure does make my old 1mbit cable look like a carrier pigeon.
Wow. Good times. Should be even more to come when we get the server more populated. Thanks guys! ![]()

Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
I had a great time last night, glad to get back into the swing of things. Can we get GTR2 on the server too? I would love to try that out too with everyone that has it.

Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
Does it have a dedicated server application similar to GTL?

Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
Their is a app installed in my programs under GTR2 called GTR2 Dedicated Server. When I open it, it gives me options for tracks and cars. It is made by the same company as GTL so it might be the same type of app. Not sure though.

Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
GTR2 is basically GTL 2.0. It would be the exact same kind of upload, setup, etc as you already did for GTL, Apo. Both dediserver GUIs even look and operate nearly identically. Only meaningful difference, of course, is the content of each game. As far as hosting specs, GTR2 has higher demands on connection speeds than GTL.

Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
While I'm not opposed to setting up a GTR2 server for some variety, I want to avoid splitting our small playerbase. I've been thinking about what GTR2 could mean for TGRL, and I see it having more potential for *increasing* our membership by way of offering more than one title. However, I think some planning needs to go into this before we start committing the resources.
My goal for sim racing at TG originally was to have some folks to race with. That turned into TGRL and we actually managed some small championship racing. While we've had more slow periods than we have busy (particularly regarding championship events), I see TGRL as having a foundation that can be grown substantially. With the addition of a permanent TG server for GTL, the door is open for us to attract players, particularly from outside TG. So my goal now is to make TGRL grow into a proper league... one where we have enough participants to fill a grid nicely for regular championship races. Don't get me wrong... open track time is fun and all, but it's not enough. I realize there is a lot that could have been done to bring TGRL up to this level before, and honestly, beginning with myself, that potential hasn't been pursued yet. Not a problem. But we have an opportunity now with our new server to become something more serious... as serious as our scrim activities are in more essential TG games. While GTL is far and away my favorite racing sim (having also driven plenty of GTR2, rFactor, and GPL), I don't expect it to be the only title we support. GTR2 is the hot sim right now in the racing community, and I know it's playerbase is more populous than GTL's. So I see it as a viable draw for racing in TGRL, if not a vehicle (no pun intended) to have crossover in GTL. Each game can be mutually supportive, and I realize there will be some players who will only play one and never the other. Anyway... not sure where my thoughts are going with this. I guess the bottom line is like I already said... I'd like to discuss and explore what future plans there are for TGRL. Plans that sustain and grow the current GTL playerbase, as well as expand/grow into/through GTR2. There's room for both games here, but we can't split our small numbers in hopes of supporting 2 titles right now. I'll support a GTR2 server if it's something we rotate secondarily to GTL for starters. Obviously, setting this up depends on Apo and his time/procurement of the game/upload to server, etc. And since we've only had the GTL server for... oh... 2ish days so far, I think it's a bit hasty to try and rush for a GTR2 server immediately.

Re: Merry Xmas, TGRL!
I think that I speak for everyone in saying that we all want to be on the same server, regardless of the title. However, why not do some open track nights with GT2, others with GTL, and just kind of rotate based upon what mood everyone seems to be in?
