Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
I am having some severe performance problems when running fraps. My PC is by no means sub-par. I am able to play the game on high detail seetings at high resolutions (above 1024x1280) with NO issues but as soon as I hit F9 my FPS drops down to the teens.
I have lowered all my in-game video settings and have lowered my in-game resolution but still have the same problem. 1. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I will acccept anything from generic and general to something very specific. 2. What does the FPS setting (25, 30, 60, 90) actually do in FRAPS?

Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
You can try to record at half size. The quality of the video will be worse, but FRAPS' strain on your comp will be greatly reduced and your performance will go up.
The different FPS settings just tell at what fps FRAPS should record at. The difference for each on is that once recorded, the video with a higher FPS setting will be a larger file size than video with lower FPS settings. Unless you are doing some slow motion work or speed altering of the video clips, I would just recommend you to set the FPS at 30. It keeps the file size down and gives good results. |

Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
as Pablo says record in half-screen size, full screen needs a 10,000 RPM hard drive, not the regular 7200 RPM hard drive
also be aware that if you set recording FPS to 30 (my recommendation to you) then there is less writing to the hard drive while still being playable and video quality is good (no lag in video, sub 25 the lag shows in video) also if you set to 30 FPS then fraps reduces the game FPS when recording to 30 and it just sits there at 30 FPS

Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
right - FRAPs will lock your game at the framerate you choose. If you choose 25fps, you're game will run at 25fps... I always choose the highest rate in fraps (60 i think?) and it runs around 45.

Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
Try guncam
http://www.growlersoftware.com You can choose the video size without changing the game resolution, and the capture rate setting won't lock the game down to that FPS you set the capture rate. So you will actually get better in-game FPS with a lower capture rate. |

Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
for 1st person footage (potentially with squad chatter) record with fraps as you play
for 3rd person cinematic footage, record with fraps off a maps demo file, played back through battledirector Battledirector 1.7 is out http://sircommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2355 Read this setup info for full guidance http://www.sircommunity.com/bd/docs/ the two things I would add are 1) create the demos folder if its not there 2) make hud invisible with renderer.drawHud 0 (see below) I just use playfreecam and record with fraps, I dont render with battledirector playback in 800*600 in windowed means I can have high quality recording without the black bands around my fraps footage top and bottom to make the Q and T options invisible and more importantly the player leaving server messages top left go invisible; hud invisible = ~ for consule and enter renderer.drawHud 0 hud draw = ~ for consule and enter renderer.drawHud 1 controls for when player hud invisible; W, A, S, D, – move camera around Ctrl and Shift – move camera down and up. Mouse look – aim free camera. 1 – Pause 2 – normal speed 3 – 5% 4 – 25% 5 – 50% 6 – normal speed 7 – 150% 8 – 300% Right Mouse Button – cycle between free camera and player camera. Spacebar – cycle between players. Mouse wheel – zoom camera in and out when locked onto a player. I edit in vegas. if you edit in windows movie maker you can cut the battledirector footage into the 1st person game footages and still have the squad chatter with this method

Re: All things Battlerecorder & Battledirector
when playing demos through the 2142 menus
you can turn nametags and hud on / off these commands pretty much means you can do what battle director does inside the 2142 demo player goto consule "~" top left of keyboard, type commands below and press return renderer.drawNametags 0 = nametags off renderer.drawNametags 1 = nametags back on renderer.drawHud 0 = hud off renderer.drawHud 0 = hud back on
