Re: First Impressions
Reminds me of an old text-drawn war games(see below) that I used to play at the dawn of computing, but prettier.
. . . . I . . . . X. . . . .T . . . i . .i. . . . . . C . . I have played/am playing 3 games and this is probably a pre-mature opinion, but the game seems like Monopoly; once you start losing, there is little chance to come back. This is a reflection of the rather non-randomness of battle losses. A two player game is decided in who can grab and keep the first extra city, then it is just a matter of time(assuming competent play). I will keep playing to see if I am wrong...

Re: First Impressions
I like it, a lot. School is keeping me busy so I haven't gotten too into it but I have enjoyed what I have played so far. I'm not too big a fan of the smallest map. Maybe if the game creator removed heavy artillery it would play better. As it is if someone gets two heavy pieces in the right position first, they shouldn't lose. Just a recommendation when bringing in new players.
Also, I find the Zone of Control a bit too strong. Maybe have a set ZoC for each unit (troopers 2, raiders 3, tanks 4, etc.) or even have a dynamic one dependent on how many turns a unit has stayed on a square plus how many hit points are left. Right now, troopers, even with just a single man left, can hold a 4 space front. I think this would open the game up a bit more. Either way, overall it's still a fun game and I look forward to getting deeper into it. |

Re: First Impressions
This game reminds me of Empire (or Empire Deluxe) if anyone here ever played it. Hell, I still have the disks around. lol
Anyhow, just did my first turn and the interface is very slick. The help information was also very useful although I need to check to see if the wiki is up today to get more detailed info. BTW, anyone who likes turn based strategy and has Civ 4, I hope you are keeping a tab on those forums. ![]() Bernout |

Re: First Impressions
After finally getting beat by Asch (
), I am ready to give an opinion. Its an interesting game and does solve the issue of how long TBS's can be (anyone whose played a decent game of Battalion can attest to this). The Zone of Control idea is neat (but the wiki is down and I have no clue how it works ) but does increase the defensive nature of the game, this could also be due to the low-income, small map I played on. All in all its a fun game and enjoyable. I especially like the specifications page, very useful for newbies.
