Re: Wii - first impressions?

The reason I purchased a Wii was because out of all the "Next Generation Consoles" that have come out, Nintendo has really taken this whole game immersion thing and plowed ahead.

I think that is crucial. those VR machines were insanely clunky and annoying. But it had the right idea.

The more these companies can suggest and promote activity beyond the thumbs the better as far as I'm concerned, I guess you could say Thumbs Up, eh that's corny... but I said it anyways. And who knows, maybe it will help with Childhood Obesety? (Or, as this thread has suggested, Adult =P)

Chances are I will also purchase a PS3 in the future though.

It's really a shame u cant have Wii's functionality with the power and codeability of the Xbox
The only thing the X-Box 360 has over the Wii is Halo 3 which will be released next year.

And, personally, I'll just borrow a 360 from someone to play through the Halo 3 campaign because THEY DIDN'T BLOODY FINISH THE STORYLINE IN HALO 2!

Re: Wii - first impressions?

I got a Wii on launch day and it is a very good system. The system itself is very tiny and slick looking, and the controller feels very good in your hand. I bought Red Steel and Excite Truck with it (yes you read it correctly, I didn't buy Zelda), and I have to say my favourite game so far is... Wii Sports.

It's just really fun and enjoyable doing the actual motions to perform the actions.

Both Excite Truck and Red Steel are good games, except Red Steel has some control issues and it does take a while to get used to the controls. I didn't enjoy Red Steel at first, but the more I got used to the controls the more I enjoyed the game. Excite Truck is just fast crazy action which is always fun.

I think later this week I'll pick up either Super Monkey Ball or Rayman (or both) since both of those games further utilize crazy unorthodox controls.

In the end it is truly a great and fun system. Yes it will never have graphics so great that your eyes will begin to bleed, but who needs graphics when games are incredibly fun?

Anyone get the Wii?

I would like to know what peeps at TG think about the Wii and how well the Wiimote works, before I fork over the cash. Anyone?

Re: Anyone get the Wii?

The Wii is the first console in a LONG time (since Playstation 1) that I have ANY interest in buying. I mean, I have been asking the same question to console advocates for years, "What can that thing do that my 5 year old PC can't?" And for once, the answer isn't "uhhh... it's just more fun." Even though, ironically, in this case it's probably the first time I'd agree with that reasoning.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

I haven't even opened Zelda been having a blast with Wii Sports and Madden. I also got Rayman but beat it pretty quickly. I have Excite Truck but haven't opened it, I may return it.

Can't wait for full version of the sport games that can take full advantage of the motion sensing. I agree with whomever said it was the perfect console for a PC gamer.

I love the system and think it was worth every penny. I have 3 controller sets, can't wait to get the 4th for some 2v2 Madden action or 4 player Tennis.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

Here's a GREAT link on a developer's perspective of Xbox360 vs. PS3:

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-348-1.htm

It basically says what I've been telling everyone I know who was thinking of buying a PS3. "Just DONT" Unless u intend on selling it to make money.

If you simply must have consoles, then buy yourself a 360 and with the money saved go buy a Wii. Spending $600 on a PS3 is ludricrous.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

/. is talking about the Wii getting couch potatoes to actually move around: http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl...42237&from=rss

Someone made a comment about adults not wanting to play first person shooters and I had to comment:

Re: Wii - first impressions?

/Rick pokes his head into the forum.

I say a commercial today and noticed that the Wii allows the player to stand up and move their arms around and stuff with those little hand held deals.

IMO, that is super great.

I think it is safe to say Americia is having a health issue with kids and persons of all age.

If I was a parent, the Wii is looking really good right now.

I think we just saw an evolution of gaming with regards to functional real word training and such. Good sign indeed.

Bravo Cing...Well said.

Truly nothing better then coming home after a hard days work to jump on the TG servers and play some great games. (When the wife lets me that is.)

As for the Wii...I have the Game Cube now and I like the fact that Wii still plays the GC games. The family saw the Wii and the wife was even interested in it...

Then again she was watching some kids playing Guitar Hero 2 on the PS2 and I thought I saw a glimmer of air guitar in her eyes...LOL! I warned her that I don't think Guitar Hero 2 was on the Wii. But for the price I think Wii will be the next family toy.
