Re: Wii - first impressions?

I can only do side spin, not back and forward. The easiest way I've found to bowl strikes with spinning, is to line your guy all the way to the right, and then bowl with the wiimote on it's side. Works 80% of the time, and you can tweak it from there.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

I was referring to tennis not bowling. I can do the curves in bowling, but sometimes in tennis they will put wicked spin on the ball shooting it off left or right as soon as it lands.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

Ahh, sorry for that. It Tennis, I can do the spin to the right a lot easier than to the left. I swing like normal, but cut to my thigh when I make contact, turning the inside of my wrist facing out. Hope that helps!

Re: Wii - first impressions?

It is proving very difficult to find a Wii. Calls to many stores is met with laughter. My brother swung by Best Buy this morning at 7:00 AM because they said they would have some in when they opened. He found that they had a line of 75 people and they had given tickets to the first 20 at 6:00 AM. He then tried EBGames, where they told him that every morning when they open the store, there is a group of people waiting and hoping. Then he broke down and payed over double the store price on EBay.

Walmart hasn't had any come in since launch. Crazy world. Luckily, I only want one for me, and it doesn't have to be before xmas. (tho it would be nice)

(Crazy aside: my brother went to a video store to rent a movie this evening, and the store had 2 PS3's sitting there for sale.)

So uh... any tips on where to find a Wii? Specifically in Canada?

Re: Wii - first impressions?

My wife waited in line at WalMart last Wednesday for a Wii. Our local WalMart had 9 of them going on sale at 8am. She got there at 3am to get in line and found out that they were making them wait outside the store. In twenty degree weather. So she went in and bought a hat and scarf and gloves and a blanket and went back out and was the eighth person in line. All this while I'm driving home from work and going to sleep in our nice warm waterbed.

Damn, I love her!

This site was key to knowing when to call about getting a Wii: http://www.ps3seeker.com/wii/

I only wish she had brought the damn thing home. Instead, she took it straight to Grandma and Grandpa's house so that I wouldn't be tempted to "make sure it works".

Re: Wii - first impressions?

Heh. Target has had two total Wii shipments already, launch and then two weeks later, which we were instructed to hold for a week. I'll let you guys know if we get similar instructions on the next shipment (which will mean that I'll know the exact day we're stocking them again). We expect to get one more the week before christmas, on the order of 20 per store, but won't know for sure until closer.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

I now have Excite Truck and the Metal Slug Anthology. Also to anyone that never got a Gamecube don't just stand there go out and get some games. Plenty of quality titles at the <20 granted some games are still 40ish.

My Wii all of a sudden stopped connect online and gave me some error message. To fix it I changed the wirless routers channel to 1 (was at 6) and now it works fine.

P.S: Gunstar Heroes is such an awesome game. I thought it would be stupid to actually buy Virtual Console games, but I've already spent like $32 bucks on games already... hopfully Castlevania 4 comes out soon.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

^^^They are overpriced a bit (the PS1 games are about 7 dollars if i recall) but I don't mind too much.

My game total is now four. It was four before but I traded in COD3 for Metal Slug. I also picked up Battalion wars GC. (For those that don't know Battalion wars is the console version of the Advance Wars series.)

Re: Wii - first impressions?

Heh, so funny story.

I was out of town this weekend, and stopped in a large mall where I was. They had a big demonstration area set up for the Wii, with about 6-8 systems going. I stopped to watch for a bit, then chatted it up with one of the reps that was there. Essentially Nintendo is paying local gaming boutiques (like Gamestop) to man these demo areas until sometime in January, which is pretty cool.

So along in the conversation, I asked if he had had any of the remote straps break. He responded with, "The straps don't break." I was kinda baffled at the response, and asked if he was sure. He was very good about informing me that the straps in fact do not break, however he also let me know that Nintendo was sending out free replacement straps (if they don't break, why do we need replacements?). Then he went on telling me how they had to install plexiglass over their monitors at the demo, blaming it on the remotes being tethered which forced people to be too close. But the only reason he could imagine remotes flying through the air would be because of sweaty palms and not wearing the strap.

It was pretty funny to watch him do the marketing dance, he had no clue that I was actually an informed consumer. Toward the end of the talk he tried to push a demo DVD on me, and I let him know that I was a tech guy and was up to date on all the Wii info. He had a bit of the "oh crap, I'm caught" look to him. Still fun to chat, but I walked away with an amused smile. :P
