Re: Wii - first impressions?

The straps don't just break... You have to be flailing about like a complete retard and let go of the remote for that to happen. I've had mine since launch and had quite a few people play on it and for quite a few hours. I've had no issues with people letting go of it (maybe because their intelligent) and even if they did, I don't think they were swinging with such strength to break the strap. It isn't a 1 - 1 ratio on what you do versus what happen on the screen; it takes very modest quick movements to get the most power.

I'm fully aware of that; I know simply sitting there and holding the thing in your hand won't result in the strap breaking and the remote magically flying into the nearest piece of electronics. I simply found it funny that he denied the straps breaking at all in one sentence, yet in the next talked about what Nintendo was doing to replace (broken) straps along with what the demo squad was doing to protect their own equipment. :P

Re: Wii - first impressions?

I consider myself an intelligent person, yet I and a couple friends have had the wiimote slip out of our hands, and were thankful for the straps. We were playing Tennis, and getting into it. No, we weren't flailing around like idiots, or swinging full force, but your hands will get sweaty playing. I went on the "replacement strap" website, requested my new straps, and they will be here this week. Great job Nintendo.

Tarpan, you should have called that salesman out on the straps, found a soapbox, climbed aboard, and then start lecturing the crowd. Would have been awesome.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

boudreux, I think it may have more to do with the way my living room is situated. If you get too 'into it' in my house, someone is getting knocked out.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

^^^That is another launch game I would like to try. I am not sure if I should get Ultimate Alliance for the Wii or the PC.

I am suprised no one has mentioned this. I hate Japan. Their VC list is so much better then our list that it isn't even funny.

Re: Wii - first impressions?

Yup, North America really got the shaft with the Virtual Console selection. At least they are adding new games every monday now (the turn based stategy game they added today looked preaty cool). As long as Contra 3 and Castlevania 4 come out, it'll all be good (and of course Zelda 2). I've never played Battalion Wars before (which is odd since I love Advance Wars and owned a GameCube beforehand) but I will definetly get Battalion Wars 2 when it comes out.

I think the straps for the remotes are preaty strong the way they are, but that didn't stop me from ordering 4 new ones (even though I only have 2 controllers).

Re: Wii - first impressions?

Well I finally got a chance to do some Christmas shopping so I hit the mall with my daughter, Nintendo had 8 consoles setup with 8 different games to try. Wii is now on my list to get (As soon as I can find one.) The driving game was fun...took me a bit to figure out to hold the controller like a steering wheel...even the kid had a blast...Let the Games begin....
