Battlefield 2 (BF2) is the sequel to the computer games Battlefield: Vietnam and Battlefield 1942. Battlefield 2 was created by Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and published by Electronic Arts (EA).

Battlefield 2 is a first-person shooter and uses more modern weapons than its predecessors. Armies included in the base game are the USMC, the Chinese PLA, and a fictional Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC). Players can choose to play as one of 7 different classes and control multiple different land and air vehicles. It supports up to 64-players via online internet play. Tactical Gamer hosts several servers for public play.

Battlefield 2, at its core, is nothing more than a shooting game. At Tactical Gamer, processes and procedures have been developed to make the game in to a tactical, squad based game which requires communication, planning, and understanding of many different aspects of the game.

Players which are new to Tactical Gamer or new to BF2 at Tactical Gamer would be well served to read through the information in the New To BF2 guide. Others, even experienced veterans, will find the information in the BF2 Training and Tactics Library to be quite valuable. All players are required to read the Official Rules, Announcements, and SOPs for the servers.

We at Tactical Gamer are going to attempt to cobble together some information regarding the back end of Battlefield 2. DICE and EA have exposed a great deal of functionality via Python scripts, and this wiki will make a meager attempt to document some of the functionality, as well as how to use and abuse it. Several plugins have been created for use on Tactical Gamer's servers, a list of those plugins is on the TG BF2 Plugins page.

The squad system in Battlefield 2 is an integral part of gameplay. After playing the game for a number of hours, players may find that they enjoy playing with certain other players on a regular basis for various reasons. To help facilitate this, Tactical Gamer allows players to form in-house squads so these players can develop small unit tactics and procedures.
