[edit] Introduction
Support is *necessary* for both the IDS, EMP, and the NETBAT diamonds. It is not optional, nice, or “good to have”: it is positively crucial to a squad’s success.
Most people don’t run Support because they feel combat ineffective with Support weapons.
Machine Guns in the support kit are ineffective in most TG infantry squad engagements. Clark 12B Shotgun is extremely effective in fast, CQ engagements and hence is preferred.
This is why I am running a Shotgun Basic class: not so much to get the community more proficient with the weapon, but rather to encourage more supports, more IDSs, more EMP locks, and more teamwork as a result.
[edit] Important Ideas
- Shotgun is effective only in CQ
- Shotgun pellets are fired manually, at a rate of fire equivalent of the Herzog
- Shotgun shots are rarely 1-shot kills.
- From personal experience shotgun is 20% 1SK, 60% 2SK, 20% 3+SK.
- Mobility and “dancing” around a target is important.
- Firing at maximum rate of fire is important
[edit] Drills
1. FF=OFF. Fire shotgun at maximum rate of fire. Empty several clips, and sincerely focus on shooting at maximum speed.
Purpose: Get people familiar with what is possible with a Clark. Most people use a Clark like a bazooka: fact is, Clark fires very quickly, with very little delay.
2. FF=OFF. Get with a partner. 1 is Voss, 2 is Clark. Voss consistently fires at Clark’s head, Clark tries to maintain maximum rate of fire on Voss. Switch kits after Voss empties 4 clips.
Purpose: Break the fear of clicking consistently while being shot at.
3. FF=ON. Get with a partner. 1 is Defib, 2 is Clark. Defib can only heal self and has to “dance” around the shottie to stay alive as long as possible. Clark kills Defib, picks up his kit, revives, and the roles are reversed.
Purpose: Getting comfortable with CQ engagements. Breaking the fear of confrontation.
4. FF = ON. Get with a partner. Shotgun and Voss keep 50 meters between them. Shotgun has to close in the distance by running from cover to cover, but not firing until he is under 5 meters to Voss.
Purpose: Teach how to deal with the Clark’s weaknesses, and how to approach a situation by maximizing strengths.
