[edit] Gameplay

Overall, the gameplay of Dystopia consists of Corp (Corporation) and Punk (Cyberpunk) forces engaging in combat over strategic technological interests in the mid 21st century. Gameplay involves these two sides subdivided into three particular classes, the light, the medium, and the heavy, who utilize their various advantages and talents to achieve their objectives. While no differences exist between the teams besides their coloration and style of armor, the gameplay always revolves around one side being placed in an offensive position and the other in a defensive one. Sides are map specific, so Punk/Corp forces will always be defending on particular maps while always attacking on others.

In order for a team to obtain victory in Dystopia, a substantial quantity of objectives must be either achieved or protected by the offensive and defensive team respectively. Typically taken in sequential order, that is top to bottom on the objective list, objectives in Dystopia are extremely dynamic goals designed by the map maker that combine scripting, player actions, and map entities to provide that no two maps play the same way. Capturing objectives is an action typically done by the offensive team, however some objectives have two-way triggers (such as a security shutoff switch) that can then be retaken by the defensive team following an initial loss.

Within the act of capturing objectives, teamwork shines through in this game and earns its place in the TG community. Dystopia maps require intense amounts of teamwork in order for an objective to be obtained and preserved by either side. The teamwork extends across both worlds of Dystopia, leaving the realm of the class based players and entering the virtualization of computer infrastructure that is cyberspace. Players in Dystopia modify themselves one step further than any other game hosted at TG, they implant electronic devices into their very bodies that allow them to have superhuman abilities, as well as interact with devices in the maps called JIP's, the Jack-in-Points. Using these terminals in combination with the 'cyberdeck' implant, players on either side of the conflict are able to immerse themselves in the virtual reality of cyberspace and defend electronic subsystems, sometimes objectives but also often critical defense elements such as stationary turrets, so that their compatriots may have the advantage in their real world 'meatspace' operations.

If you play Dystopia it will not be uncommon to see a man jump ten feet high in the air over your head into a vent, have a mechanoid heavy unit throw a grenade that unfolds into a spider and chases enemies down, and to see a cloaked unit slice off the head of his unexpecting victim with his sword only to have it roll away several feet before a friendly robotic voice within chimes out "goodbye", and subsequently detonates with the force of a small bomb.
