[edit] Who is Vortex421?

My real name is Martin. I'm 24 years old and work as a Quality Analyst for an IBM call center in Indiana. My job entails paying attention to detail, being observant, and offering advice when necessary. When I am not working, I am often at home watching anime, playing Battlefield 2142 or a handful of other games, or reading.

[edit] Within TacticalGamer

I am a member in good standing with the 8th Mercenary Division, and have been since November of 2007. I originally joined the TacticalGamer community in April of 2007, which means that I have been a member of the community now for over a year. I am primarily a Battlefield 2142 player and have amassed some 378 hours of time in the game since it came out over a year and a half ago. I have spent some time playing Frontlines: Fuel of War (not playing currently) and Battlefield 2.

[edit] Game Personality

[edit] Battlefield 2142

BF 2142 is my primary game of choice within the TG universe. As a player I seek a happy medium between adopting a tactical mindset and having fun within the game. I am highly competitive by nature but do not let my competitive nature detract from the fact that this is a game and is meant to be an enjoyable experience.

[edit] Squad roles

Below are my stances and opinions on the various aspects of personnel within Battlefield 2142.

[edit] Squad Leader

As a squad leader my focus is on accomplishing objectives to further the team. In instances where a map requires a defensive posture, I assume defense of a particular flag or area and hold until ordered to do otherwise. In instances where a map requires an offensive posture, I attempt to place my squad in such a way that it will be mutually supportive of other squads or penetrate enemy defenses rapidly. Maps that have a neutral posture I tend to assume both roles depending on the situation.

  • Assault: Most personnel in my squad will be asked to operate in this role. I prefer no fewer than 3 assault personnel unless the situation warrants otherwise. I ask that all my assault personnel come in with defibs to keep revive rates high and casualties low.
  • Support: I will almost always ask for one of these kits unless under certain circumstances. It is my own personal experience that Assault squads will quickly run out of rocket ammunition.
  • Engineer: Generally this kit request is made only when we are dealing with situations where enemy armor is present or is expected to be present.
  • Recon: Unlike some of my counterparts, I do believe that this kit has valid applications if used by the right person. I will accept this kit only from certain personnel in certain circumstances.

From time to time I will make a squad with the intent of just having fun or goofing off within the game.

[edit] Squad Member

As a squad member I always ask my leader what kits if any they need brought in during a situation. I am familiar with the uses of all four kits but my general default is Assault unless otherwise intsructed.

  • Assault: This is my default kit. I am very familiar with this kit and it's uses.
  • Support: This kit was the last one I received a gold badge in. I have started using this kit more freqently, generally in a fire-support situation with the Ganz or close-quarters combat with the shotgun.
  • Engineer: I use this kit only on large armor maps or if called for by my squad leader. I prefer using other kits if the chances of encountering enemy armor are slight or none.
  • Recon: There are occasional times where I will use this kit, particularly maps where there is a high concentration of infantry or situations where the demolition of assets and/or mining of strategic points against infantry would be warranted.

[edit] Mentoring

[edit] My Expectations

I expect my students to be timely and to have a desire to learn and obtain knowledge. Most importantly, I expect my students to be willing to be willing to be introspective and not afraid to ask questions. I do not believe there is such a thing as a "stupid question". I am willing to answer all questions to the best of my ability or, if I cannot, to get you to someone or a source who can.

[edit] Availability

My schedule varies from week to week and is determined at the start of the month. I am always available after 9:30 PM EDT until around midnight or 1 AM and then in the mornings from about 9 AM EDT to noon EDT. I would ask that contact be made ahead of time to set up a mentoring date.

[edit] Roster

I cannot make any guarantees that I will be available as a mentor - unfortunately there is only so much time in a day and I can only do so much. You are welcome to check here for any availability if you want me to work with you as a mentor.
