[edit] Hunting Aircraft with the SAAW
A fully supplied Engineer has 6 magazines that carry 2 missiles each. It takes 2 rounds to take down a gunship (UD-6 Talon / Type 4 Doragon) at 100% health. It takes 3 rounds to take down a transport (UD-12 Shepherd / BTR-20 Yastreb) at 100% health (provided no one is repairing). A weapons lock must be maintained to get a hit. Without a lock, the missiles fly off into oblivion.
Make sure you are in a location that allows a fair amount of distance to track the target. Highway Tampa, for one, is a fantastic hunting ground. Wait for a target to get close so that once you lock and fire, you have plenty of tracking distance. Once you lock up the target, wait a second to see if shields are deployed. When you fire, fire both missiles.
There are two methods to maintain a weapons lock while the missiles are in flight. The first is to hold the trigger after firing the second missile to prevent the auto reload. This allows the SAAW to remain scoped and track the target with the lock reticle until the two hits are indicated on the HUD. The second method is to allow the reload to take place while keeping the target in front of the SAAW until you get the hit indicators. The SAAW continues to track targets even when not scoped. The second method is more useful for destroying the slower moving but tougher transport.
SAAW Scope Tracking allows you to track a target even if it passes out of visual range.
To be greatly effective with the SAAW make sure you can set the "View Distance" in the video options to 100%.
