[edit] Welcome to TacticalWiki!
The goal of Tactical Wiki is to present all the information a newcomer to Tactical Gamer would ever need to fit right into both the community and the games we all play. Tactical Wiki is designed to link from more general information to more specific information so as to support both new and experienced users finding the exact information they need in as few links as possible. It is divided into four main sections:
What is Tactical Gamer? is the Tactical Gamer philosophy, and the principles and rules we play by. Who are the Members of Tactical Gamer? is a list of people who have volunteered their time to help keep Tactical Gamer running and what they can do for you. What Does Tactical Gamer Have to Offer? will explain every benefit you will get for joining Tactical Gamer, from an amazing message board community to participation in exclusive organized scrimmages in the games you play. And finally, How Do I Get Set Up? will explain the nuts and bolts of how you can take advantage of all the amazing tools and privileges that membership brings.
[edit] What is Tactical Gamer?
From the Tactical Gamer Primer: One of the first questions we hear often is "How do I join your clan?"' The typical answer given is "We're not a clan, we're a community."
Tactical Gamer isn’t the message board, it isn’t the servers we host so many games on, it’s the idea that playing a game to win by any means isn’t the best way to have a good time. All of the members of Tactical Gamer have discovered at one time or another in their gaming that they want something more out of their experience.
Some of us crave a sense of realism in our games, since people don’t routinely hop around the battlefield like bunnies, and pistols aren’t usually accurate past a short distance. Others are seeking the advanced tactical and team-play experience that is rare to nonexistent on most pubs; where beginners are scorned, tactics are limited to killing until you’re killed, and lone wolfing (ignoring your team’s goals and playing for your own gratification) is the norm. Finally, Tactical Gamer offers a safe, moderated playing experience where griefing (players that have fun by ruining everyone else’s experience) isn’t allowed, and everyone agrees not to do things that are possible within the game engine, but destroy the fun and challenge of the game.
To accomplish all of this, there are a list of Rules and Guiding Principles that every Tactical Gamer agrees to know and follow. Some of them pertain to the Message Board, some to the Games That Tactical Gamer Hosts, and some to Tactical Gamer in general. If you wish to be a member of our community, whether you wear the TG Tags or not, you must know these rules and take them to heart.'
[edit] Who Are the Members of Tactical Gamer?
Certain community members have agreed to donate their time and take responsibilities upon themselves above and beyond following the Rules and Guiding Principles. They have the authority to enforce order and help you if you have a problem with almost any aspect of the community, from setting up your forum account (through which you access all membership benefits) to reporting a problem player that you’ve encountered. Any contact with an officer of Tactical Gamer should be through a PM (Private Message). A PM inbox is made available as soon as you register for a free account at TacticalGamer.com
Game Admins deal with the day-to-day issues that players of a specific game or mod have, from technical to behavioral, and have limited powers to moderate the servers. They are the first people to contact if you are having a problem. Gaming Officers (GO’s) are responsible for all areas that pertain to a specific game hosted by Tactical Gamer and all of its mods (modified games, which are games based on the original game engine that are created by the community for free). If you have an issue with a particular Game Admin, bring it to the attention of the appropriate Gaming Officer. Apophis and asch are Administrators (not to be confused with Game Admins), and oversee every aspect of Tactical Gamer, its community, and all its services.

[edit] How Do I Get Set Up?
Tactical Gamer has so much to offer, both integrated into the website and externally, that getting it all set up and arranged can take a little time and a little know-how. Fortunately, many volunteers have contributed How-To's and FAQ’s to make this process much easier.
- The first step is to register at TacticalGamer.com.
- We are developing a 1 on 1 mentoring program to aid in getting new members comfortable quickly.
- Teamspeak is a program that allows us all to talk together in real time. Communication is a very important part of the community, and our server is passworded. Getting a password is easy and is an integrated part of registering for the website.
- The website and forums have a very useful General FAQ to explain how to use them.
- IRC is extremely easy to use, but it does take some setting up and getting used to.
- Each of the games hosted by Tactical Gamer has its own Game Technical Support forum. Tactical Gamer has so many talented members that if you’ve had a problem with any game we support, someone has probably already posted a solution.
- If you use Firefox to view the web, you can take advantage of various Tactical Gamer scripts written by TG members for greasemonkey, which changes the way your browser interprets the html it gets. They are designed to add more functionality to your experience on the Tactical Gamer website. Once you install greasemonkey you can pick and choose any scripts you'd like to install.
