[edit] Server Access
The TacticalGamer Natural Selection Server is open to the public. To ensure that our rules are more likely to be read, we have implemented a system whereby players without TacticalGamer.com forum registration (with the STEAM_ID placed in the forum profile) are given a Question Mark icon to indicate their visitor status. Supporting Members and users with over 10000 points can issue a gb <player> <reason> in console to remove these visitors should they constitute a disruption to the TacticalGamer experience. This command can be used with or without an admin present.
The server may be password protected during certain special events, such as tournament matches and Captains Games.
Reserved slots are used on the server. Any player with a TG Membership has a reserved slot on the server. This is one of the In Game Member Benefits. When connecting, a non-member player will be kicked. Also, as a member, you will not be slot kicked. Accumulated points will decrease your chances of being kicked for a reserved slot.
[edit] Basic Rules
Language: Broadcast television (not cable) rules apply. There is no swear filter installed on the server, however it is strongly discouraged. Mature, respectful, and appropriate language is desired. Any regular (who, per community rules, has read all rules, including this one) who uses a racial or sexual slur may without warning receive a ban, the length of which would be determined by its issuer. Tolerance has its place, but no tolerance is shown for racial or sexual slurs.
Respect: Treat all fellow players with respect. No slurs of any kind.
Communication: If you cannot communicate with your team, you will be kicked.
Teamwork: Teamwork comes first, no matter what.
Cheating: Do it, and be banned. Cheating includes but is not limited to any and all methods of gaining knowledge of actions and plans of the other team, including wallhacks and collusion over Ventrilo/Teamspeak.
Blocking: Using structures to block other structures or areas of the map is not allowed. This includes: blocking Infantry Portals, Elevators, and moving doors. Additionally, building in a way that completely blocks off a doorway or vent is not allowed. Building in a doorway is allowed if players can still navigate past the structure.
Trapping: Dropping structures with the intent of blocking the escape of a retreating alien lifeform is not allowed. Forum: 'TF Blocking'
Blocking vs Trapping: To review: Trapping BAD. Blocking OK. An Admin decides in real time what's trapping and what's blocking, so be prepared to leave the server if your block is perceived as a trap (and PM later, at your discretion).
Friendly Fire: Friendly fire is enabled at all times. Intentional TKs are not tolerated.
Scripting: Tactical Gamer NS has mp_blockscripts set to 0. This means that scripts are allowed, including pistol scripts.
Recycling Marine Base: Recycling marine base at the end of a game is not allowed. Yes, of course marines can recycle structures during gameplay. You know the difference between "recycling something" and "recycling your base to end the game". Don't do the latter. See below remedy* for those very rare times when the other team is genuinely out of line.
"Recycling" on Aliens: Biting the hive or other alien structures at the end of a game is not allowed. See below remedy* for those very rare times when the other team is genuinely out of line.
DC Nests: The TGNS server has a plugin which causes defense chambers to become inactive after the last alien hive is taken down, to prevent DC nests.
Chamber Merging: Building alien chambers inside of each other is considered a flaw in the game, and is not allowed. Forum: 'Chamber Merging'.
Onos And Game Size: There is no specific rule against evolving to Onos in a small game. It is considered by many players to be bad form. Forum: 'Onos Rules??'
Node Blocking: Dropping nodes as marine commander to block aliens from building nodes is allowed, but again this may be considered bad form.
F4/rejoin: F4 was designed to allow players to leave a team; any other use of the command during a game is out of bounds. It's a departure from the playing style that we promote on the server, and you'll be at the mercy of whichever admin is present should you choose to abuse the F4 key.
F4/giveup: Don't F4 at the end of rounds to sit in the readyroom while the match finishes. It's considered disrespectful (your intent is not relevant).
Marine Vent Hopping: Marines may not hop inside vents (which force a crouched position) for the purposes of exploitatively increasing speed. A good example of such a vent is that running from Bio Hive to Vent Hive on ns_origin.
Team Balancing: It is expected that the teams be kept in balance (even numbers, or with the marines getting the extra person). The rule of thumb is that the person lowest on the scoreboard will be the one to switch, but the team is welcome to choose any player it wishes based on the impact to the team at that moment. The larger team should have the switcher determined and prepared to go before the smaller team calls for balance. If the teams are not balanced within seconds of a registered player on the smaller team announcing the request for balance, the administration reserves the right to take any action it deems necessary to enforce team balance.
Wiggle-walking scripts: Use of wiggle-walking scripts is prohibited. Wiggle-walking itself is not prohibited, but the automation of the act with a script pushes the advantage from minor to gamebreaking.
* if even a single teammate wants to keep fighting, JOIN HIM. Otherwise, if 100% of your team wants the game to end, every single teammate should stop attacking. If the team does this, successfully, and still thinks the other team abusive in their end-game pace, send a forum PM to any admin requesting he review the server-recorded demo of the game in question. Include only a map name and approximate time of day. If you want to mention anything non-obvious about why the other team was out of line, please do. DO NOT include player names. The admins will review the server-recorded demo and act to prevent the future repetition of any inappropriate play we witness for ourselves.
[edit] Map Specific Rules
ns_nancy: It has come to our attention that some doors on ns_nancy can be opened and closed very rapidly by the commander (faster than marines on the ground are able to do so). Some commanders have exploited this to their team's benefit by crushing alien lifeforms with this aberrant door behavior. It is the view of the administration that this door behavior is outside the normal scope of the game. Rapidly toggling the doors on ns_nancy -- particularly with the purpose of killing alien lifeforms -- is an offense worthy of administrative action.
[edit] Administration
In all events, any rule violation should be reported to an admin. In the event that you suspect a cheater is on the server, please refer to the proper method for dealing with the situation.
If you disagree with how an admin handled a situation, first contact that admin via private message. If you cannot resolve the issue, contact the game officer. If that still does not work, it can be taken up with Apophis. For more details, see SOP:Admin Complaints
Further rules questions may be already be answered at the Tactical Gamer Natural Selection forums. Be sure to use the forum search function before posting new questions.
