Producing videos of in-game footage is not only useful for reviewing individual and team performance but also can extend the enjoyment of gaming to other areas of interest. Several of today's most popular games contain in-game tools and features for producing videos. There are also several third party applications available to enhance or replace in-game tools. Thanks to these tools, producing videos of in-game footage is easy and fun. This guide will give an overview of these tools and applications as well as link to tutorials to show you how they work.

Battlerecorder is an integrated tool for EA/DICE's Battlefield Series (BF2 & BF2142) for both recording rounds and playing them back within the Battlefield engine. Battlerecorder includes functionality for rendering sequences from the recorded file to .avi format. Players can choose the point of view to watch the recording from (moving from player to player or around the world in free cam; note that Battlerecorder does not store first person view data).

BattleDirector is an application for Battlefield movie directors created by Sir. Elyxx of the Sir. Community. It streamlines the moviemaking process by allowing filmmakers to go from BFR to AVI in simple steps. The simple GUI provides all the tools you need with one-click access.

Fraps is a universal Windows application that can be used with games using DirectX or OpenGL graphic technology. In its current form Fraps can be utilized for benchmarking, screen captures, and realtime video capturing.

Windows Movie Maker is included with Windows XP SP2. With Movie Maker 2.1, you can create, edit, and share your in-game movies right on your computer. Build your movie with a few simple drag-and-drops. Delete bad shots and include only the best scenes. Then share your movie via the Web, e-mail, or CD.

Available on Sony's website, this is a more advanced "payware" piece of software that is commonly used for proffesional application, making commercials etc. and is very feature rich.
