[edit] Sloppy's Key Bindings Introduction

I know everyone probably has preferences and I'm not trying to impose but I would like to offer my layout as a guide. It is pretty logical and as motion studies have indicated, quick.

You know the in-game key options? IT'S CRAP!!!! Avoid using it if you can. Editting the bindings in the file is much more powerful, allows for multiple keys to do the same thing as well as one key doing multiple things (but not cheating type things).

I don't know how else to do this but to paste the whole damn thing in...

[edit] Sloppy's User.ini

The file to edit is User.ini and is usually located in C:\Program Files\America's Army\System. Sloppy's ini contains the aliases discussed below.

[edit] Sloppy's Explanation

[edit] Mouse

Mouse config is based on a 5 button mouse. If you don't have one I strongly suggest getting one!

  • Left button is fire
  • Right is alt fire (I think the default is zoom, but that gets moved)
  • Middle mouse press drops weapon (this makes for FAST weapon shopping or passing grenades to buddies)
  • Middle mouse up and down is flash and frag grenades. You use these a lot and often times it helps to whip these out on the move. Smoke is still "3" but you usually don't need to smoke quickly enough to warrant a mouse key.
  • Side button (Mouse4) is unbound so it can used for TeamSpeak transmit
  • Side button (Mouse5) is set to report in (this should be used a lot in game)

[edit] Movement setup

  • Typical WASD movement setup
  • Q & E are the lean keys (leaning is l33t!)
  • Shift, ctrl, alt, and C = walk toggle, crouch toggle, run, and prone. All within quick reach of a pinky or finger.

[edit] Range

  • '0' '-' '=' keys are zero range, decrease range, increase range. These are used for things like RPGs or Stryker zooming. I personally don't even bother. I just point and shoot =P

[edit] Important Support keys

These keys are all important enough to be close around the movement keys, they are used frequently and close enough to use without disrupting movement in most cases.

  • TAB is now zoom (another possible alternative would be capslock but that always makes for awkwards text comms)
  • F is action (open doors, pick up guns, etc)
  • R is reload
  • G is suppressor (used a lot)
  • H is supported fire (used sometimes)
  • V is night vision
  • B whips out binos
  • N is pistol. Yes, it is a good reach on the keyboard, but you only get a pistol if you are a sniper, and if you ever really need it quick... you're probably already dead anyway. better go for a no scope last shot=P
  • J Fixes a gun jam and asks for cover

[edit] Comms keys

  • T & Y are teamtalk and talk
  • U is global commo. This toggle is WIERD. Teamtalk is teamtalk in all situations (characterized by green text) and when you are dead talk is white text and both sides can see it. But when you are alive, talk is green and respectively functions the same as teamtalk. Well, how do you talk to the other team when you are alive? You *must* have a key to toggle talk to global commo, and then do a talk. The result is white text and the enemy can read it. Important in all sorts of situations.
  • \ is the general commo cycle. I put it out of the way because I tend to use TS or the binds I have on the numpad for most situations
  • Numpad keys are all for basic comms and I juiced them up to do hand signals and stuff as well. I customized these to my personality (such as doing a thumbs up when radioing "roger"). --- I would greatly appreciate it if you use these to modify them to your taste!!! --- I don't want a bunch of Sloppy Joe look-a-likes running around =P For a list of what the commos are just to a google search for it (or mayble I'll add to this thread when I'm feeling up to it).
  • Arrow keys all four of them are assigned to report in. When in doubt, just slam an arrow key.

[edit] Other keys

  • K is votekick
  • M is medic
  • O sets team objective (for leaders)
