Ha ha freakin ha.

Just received this message today and I couldn't help but bust out laughing when I read it.

Quote:
Profile name: E. Rommel
Violation: Profile name carried nazi reference.

Greetings from Massive Entertainment.

We are writing to tell you that we have had to place a warning on your account due to a violation of our terms of use.

The violation was that your profile name carried a nazi reference. This profile has temporarily been renamed to NiceGuy0100 and will be renamed as soon as you reply to this mail and provide a replacement name.

This warning does not lead to a suspension from the game but it may lead to serious actions being taken against your account should this violation be repeated. Please read up on our Terms of Use in order to prevent this from happening again.

//The Massgate Abuse team.
I don't normally get riled up, but this is a serious WTF moment. I've had that account name since I played CoH and I have always been an admirer of "The Desert Fox's" tactics in North Africa so I felt it was a fitting username. I don't want this thing to turn into some nasty political debate, but did Europe go on vacation from 1939-1945 or something? "Nothing to see here! Move along, sir!" I had a lot of respect for massgate up until this, seems to me like they are just pandering to the easily offended. Besides, what kind of spineless bastard is offended by someone having the name of a German WWII general? And worse yet, said spineless bastard would also seem to enjoy playing a game involving WWIII where thousands are dying before your eyes in every match, yet is somehow offended by a simple NAME?

I never really thought of myself as a hardass, but if the rest of the world is that offended I may be the only person left with a spine on this whole damn rock.

And if anybody has a suggestion for a witty reply, go ahead and post it for our enjoyment.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

E. Rommel was one of the greatest tank warfare tacitians in history and to not recognize this in a game that tanks are a key factor is absurd. Who cares whose side he fought on, the main point is the way he fought and the fighting he did is almost legendary today. People need to chill with the idea that anything German from WW2 is an idea/person/thing from the pits of some kind of Nazi hell.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

wow...

I find it sad that people are actually offended by this. I suggest you tell them that it is in no way a Nazi reference but in actuality your real name, or request that the name change be to E. Romel, see what they say

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

I would reply with what blackmain said, some historic lessons on the dude... and then ask them to reconsider... but then say "if not"... I'll take "whatever"... because if you don't give them another option, or if you piss them off you may be out of an account...

but if you want to fight oppresion, lol .... then post it on the offical forums then ALL of us will go over and say how rediculous it is, and how E R was a great military leader of the times, and you should be allowed to use it.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

Point out how the Rommel was the most anti-Nazi of all the generals, who actually hated Hitler.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

read the terms of use as well. Find that spot or at least have them show you the area that you violated.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

Hmm, I remember reading a book on Rommel that said he admired Hitler from a patriotic sort of viewpoint. I'll have to read that again. Oh, and Rommel didn't start with tanks, his early commands were infantry, but he requested one of the new Panzer regiments because he believed that was the way to go. Or something like that.

If they think that is offensive, perhaps you should remind them of what kind of game they made, and if they are offended at a name, ESPECIALLY the name of a military genius and stand-up kind of guy, maybe they should GTFO of the war-game genre of videogames and go to work on the next Barbie Adventures.

Nothing wrong with admiring Hitler's patriotism and leadership skills, doesn't mean Rommel had to be a Nazi. Hitler was a genius when it came to economics and military tactics, he lost my respect when he started killing jews and those he felt where not worthy. But that is for another topic.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

boudreux is right, I studied Rommel quite a bit and what I gathered was that while he was very patriotic, he had strong disagreements with the Nazi party and Hitler.

I don't see why anyone would be offended by simply writing his name... Perhaps you could convince them you are referring to Eddie Rommel.

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

I think Rommel was later executed by the Nazi regime. I think Hitler gave the order but was advised by Goebbels (spelling?), or maybe I am thinking of Goering...
I find it amazing too that someone was offended by your username. But then you may recieve a message telling you that someone with red hair has found your other name offensive...

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

I say just call the Maasive Abuse Team noobs and then make another account with the same name. Then see what they say. If you dont want to send them this message, then go with what Blackmain said. That would probably be best

Re: Ha ha freakin ha.

Might want to add that their are two players whose names are ''-=ISFE=-DesertFox'' and ''[^KO^]Desert Fox 02''

If you can not have the name E. Rommel what right does that person have to have the mans nickname? Claming that few people know who the Desert Fox is also a very weak and pointless agruement since the names are often interchanged on TV shows and in books.
