Maybe I'm too much of an idealist, but I really hate this kind of stuff as it makes the mindless mathematicians the ideal players rather than those who can innovate on the spot. When you start to break a game down into its mechanics in order to gain an edge in your strategy, the game ceases to be fun. I don't know about anybody else, but I really only play games for that very reason.

Re: Ultimate guide read and videos...

I get the feeling, the more I play this game..that it's just a more visual, enhanced form of CHESS. I mean..think about it..each piece, or role, has it's counter. You move to a place, they counter with a piece and home it has more or the correct type of firepower to counter yours... You anticipate, based on map knowledge, the opening move of your opponnent..and counter accordingly. And unfortunately it can be broken down to Math or strategies... But with great Teamwork..and using game knowledge..all can be countered and defeated.

Because no matter who you are or what skills ya have..you cannot win on your own....Play the same map 10 times the same way on different servers with different teammates and opponents and see how each works out differently ..

Re: Ultimate guide read and videos...

it's a rock, paper, scissor game... just with multiplayer, lol, the key is knowing what your unit is and what the other counter-units are.

It's not just rock, paper, scissors though. Every RTS has that element. It's knowing how to only come in contact with enemy scissors when you are the rock, and get some scissor backup when paper comes to hunt you down.

Exactly. There isn't exactly any detailed mathematical analysis behind the guide. If you want to see some of that, check out some Civ 4 forums where I've seen people really break it down to the numbers.

Lol.. but its even deeper then that because sometimes it doesn't matter if you have rocks, scissors, or paper. They have a freaking gun.

Re: Ultimate guide read and videos...

Yeah, this guide is hardly a mathematical equation... to me something only deserves that label when they really do break it down to numbers like Bernout said. Then it begins sounding more like one of those card games (If a tank inflicts damage of 456 per shot on armor that defends by 150...etc.)

All Strategy games have some element of rock paper scissors like Magonushi said, and that makes sense in my opinion other wise you would have a bunch of super units running around or one super unit that everyone used. WIC mixed things up a bit by giving you only a rock or only scissors and having to rely on your paper partners for backup rather than give you all of them under your command.

At the starts and ends of the video's, I think the cameraman has only just found out about the zoom button and wants to play with it a bit. Watch again if you're not sure, it's when that Moyes guy is standing talking to the camera.
