Re: World in Conflict

Eh, its decent. I played for a couple hours but it just feels like there arent enough units at your disposal, and its too hard to see whats going on in other parts of the map. Other than "tactical aids" that are incorporated badly imo, there really arent too many tactical options at your disposal. The tactical aids are really stupid because it puts something into the game that you cannot defend against. I think anything in an RTS should be avoidable through skill/strategy, but thats not the case with tactical aids.

I had high hopes for it because of what they did in Ground Control II, but this really hasnt lived up to those expectations. Its still okay, but not great.

Re: World in Conflict

Would major gameplay things change in a beta? I mean sure, various little things, but not the core of the gameplay, right?

Im still gonna give it a try though. Those were just my first impressions after a few hours of gameplay.

If there's a massive outcry against a feature, then yeah.

Re: World in Conflict

The game is a little disappointing. There really isn't much to look forward to ingame except for the tactical aids. It's basically another mass up your units together and all attack the same enemy unit to destroy it. The whole game isn't very immersive and doesn't draw me in like CoH does. The majority of games go by way too fast to be of any fun, although there are rare times when the teams are even and the round is actually fun. Like most RTS games, this game would only be fun playing with lots of other people you know...hell that goes for any game heh. Maybe if everyone would post their ingame names and we can try to play together it might actually be fun. Mine is Freeno. Duh

Re: World in Conflict

I think it has some potential, if you are playing with ppl you know and you have a plan. Their UI could use some work with regards to situational awareness.

COH, it's not.

Re: World in Conflict

I thought many of your same thoughts the first few times I played. Keep playing and you'll notice the difference.

A) This game is not about massing units. You have a max of 6000 purchase points, that's at most 5 heavy attack helicopters. It's all about fewer units and more control over those units doing what those units do best (whatever that is).

B) TA's are not impossible to dodge. In fact, they are the other way, impossible to aim. If you keep moving they won't hit you, it's like standing still in COH and complaining that you got hit by artillery.

C) Teamplay is of utmost importance. This game is right up TG's ally. I can't believe there isn't a forum for it already.

I believe WIC combines some of the best parts of COH with other RTS's to make a great RTT (real-time tactical) game. The only things I'm disappointed in (coming from a COH player) is the lack of an advanced cover system, infantry get two types (trees and buildings), the graphics at max zoom out (this is due to the distance, graphics are actually better than COH), and the lack of unique terrain and building destruction.

Re: World in Conflict

hey guys I was directed to this site after posting in the general forums about this game. I agree with fldash on everything he said. tactical aid is a pain to hit with against good players who move alot, best way is to place it and lure them into it or get them to stop moving course that means putting one of your units on the chopping block hehe.

This game is all about teamwork and tactics. I like that your units get stronger the longer they survive combat(ie. gain rank, stats, do more damage). I have to admit I like the Nuke its a sight and sound to behold but i prefer not to put all my eggs in one basket so to speak.

Anyway my in game name is jukinru. If there is a TG clan I'd appretiate the invite.

Re: World in Conflict

To be honest if anything tactical aids suck. Every time I take an Air to Air one I blame myself for it more then anything.

I agree with fldash completely. I have completely stopped playing CoH for this. Granted I can't deny that I can't stand Relic's pathetic attempts at balancing the game.

This game is probably more for TG then CoH especially with the dedicated server support and the built in VOIP.

Re: World in Conflict

TAs require a lot of skill against a good player. I was moving infantry from one forest to another, and someone called down napalm that hit my troops (that were in a rough line formation) perpendicularly - wiping out all my squads. That was incredible - I mean, the guy had to judge the exact point that I would be at 20 seconds later, and got it spot on.

Re: World in Conflict

I think the air to air and the air to ground tactical aid should work like the planes in Act of War.

It would just be great if the planes were made vulnerable to hostile AA fire but they basically would just do a fly by of the map and attack targets that are in range.

For those that don't know Act of War has the most realistic depiction of aircraft in the RTS genre. You don't build airfields you just build air control towers that let you call in runs. For example the USA can call in a B2 carpet bombing run, a F-15 air to air run, and an A-10 air to ground run.

In the case of the A-10 run what would happen (assume units are fully upgraded) you select the A-10 from your toolbar. Your cursor will then allow you to select where you want the plane to go. You will see where the plane will fly in from and wherever you click will be the last part of the run. After you select the point on the map an A-10 will appear and do a fly by. It will fly towards the target area and if it runs into enemy units along the way it will fire at them. However it saves half of it's ammo for the target area. Once it reachs the target area the A-10 goes in and firing it's cannon, whatever missles it has left, drop some bombs, and then it will then pull up out of the map.
