World in Conflict Tips/strategies

1. Infantry are great defenders in places with lots of defenses building/forests ect. Forest being much more effective giving LOS problems.

2. Fortifying is a great way to build up TA.

3. Nuke launches are alerted by a verbal warning. At this time look up, you can see the nuke come in and try and give a warning on were its going to land.

4. When using smoke try to pop just one or two at a time. They hide a very large area and you can string them out for a longer lasting effect.

5. Were as infantry are your main defenders amour is your main attacker of CPs.

6. On a team of 8 there should really never be more than two (artillery driven) support players. Exception being people who choose to provide heavy AA cover for assaulting tanks.

7. With the last in mind try not to bunch up on any role. 2 Armour 2 Helo (one heavy one medium AA) 2 infantry and 2 support. With maybe one less infantry in favor of another heavy chopper squad.

8. Heavy AA and tanks make a great pair.

9. Armour squads that are not being provided AA should think of droping a tank or two for medium AA.

10. A group of 3 Heavy Artillery strikes is a good way to prep a CP area for attack and at only 32 TA cost less than half a nuke.

11. Helos are a fast reaction force and should be used as such. You are there to support the team. Hang in the back and when someone calls for Air support or AA cover(depending on your chopper) give it.

12. As a side tactic an Armour squads can go all armored transports.(not amphibious) to provide transport for infantry. They have limited AA ability and there AT rockets are quite effective.

13. Same as helos, artillery should always be looking for artillery request FIRST then targets of opportunity.

Anyways if you would like to add more feel free.

Re: World in Conflict Tips/strategies

1. Hide your infantry in cover
2. Use neutral vehicles for your infantry (your infantry can fire out of them/they're pretty durable!)
3. Keep your infantry mobile (don't clump them up unless you want them to get firebombed)
4. Use the hold fire option to keep your infantry alive in forests
5. Wait on your TAs--patience can often earn you a better target
6. Specialize, and work as a buddy team (one goes AT, another goes AA, etc.)
7. Helos are good, but they can't capture points. So, go with ground units.
8. Keeping your medium helos alive (and getting them to star status or close to) makes them effective tank hunters.
9. Use attack ground with Heavy Helos -- it'll kill infantry faster.
10. Use rapid fire with medium helos (hold down E, and click on your targets). 2-3 rockets per helo seem to work well.

Just started doing that the other day ago, I had problems with E and not working properly, I even made like 5 groups to switch each one and hit E, but now its just Hold E and Point and shoot And I win most of the time doing that now when going face up against another chopper squadron

Re: World in Conflict Tips/strategies

Just another thing I noticed... If you select your Units prior to game start..and you have left over POINTS to spend.. It may pay off to delay the start a few seconds to get enough points to get that extra unit... Sometimes and extra 5-10 seconds can get you that Repair vehicle or extra AA you need..

Yes--waiting is fairly good if you're air or support. With the other classes, it seems like you should rush out and grab some points, but I guess it depends on your play style.

If you go MAHs tho, definitely wait for 5 MAHs since you'll need the extra missiles.

I agree since when I am armor I grab 5 APC's and bust out as fast as I can..
and with INF I can Grab 3 Personnel Carriers and 3 armor troop ASAP... No waiting there... Seems I then have to hold out for Medium Arty... or more Troops because some helo's wasted my first group@!@

Re: World in Conflict Tips/strategies

Here's my tip:
If you get overloaded with practicing on the 16 player servers, find a buddy and practice on the 1v1 or 2v2 servers.

I'm officially hooked on this game. I picked up the key a few weeks ago and tried it once on a 16 player server and was just overloaded. I felt like I couldn't do anything without getting embarrassingly punished by my enemy's helo or artillery support. So I put it down. However, this weekend, I hopped on a 1v1 server with BigBill and he showed me the ropes. 15 hours later and a slight headache from the only meal I had for the day, I realized I have to get this game.

Good point on the smaller servers ..I am in a habit of playing the 14-15+ player servers...

Re: World in Conflict Tips/strategies

I find (when playing as US) putting AT infantry and snipers (1 or 2) in the forest around research facility and waiting for the USSR tanks to roll in. AT blows tanks up. USSR calls in infantry support. Snipers take them out.
All the time getting TA points from tankhunting.
Then drop in some airborne infantry and use their artillery function on enemy fortifications.

Armor strategies

The essentials in armor whoring

1.) NEVER spam light or medium tanks. Why? Because I love going against people like that. Easy promotions for my tanks. The only one that could give the enemy a headache is 4 heavy tanks but 1) 4 of them cost 5000 points, thats a lot of waiting and doing nothing 2) they may be able to break through the lines, but they will only do so until the choppers arrive to deal with them 3) any 1 unit spam fest will instantly fail in WiC, it's just part of the game design.

2.) Figure out a combination of units that will easily adapt to changing situations. A good combination of light medium and heavy tanks may look good on paper, until you go up against a wave of choppers. The biggest problem I see with new WiC players, is that they rarely go out of their class. A single shilka or VADS will make a world of difference if used properly.

Case in point, heavy choppers are the bane of any armor player and anti air and air cover isn't always something you can rely on with public servers. When the inevitable armor vs. air face off occurs, have a tank or two pop smoke to hide the group and the medium AA and have on spotter unit hanging back to spot the helos for the AA. The helos wont be able to shoot you while the AA is trashing them unless they dumb fire the rockets, which is nothing more than a shot in the dark. If this is executed properly, the air players won't stand a chance and will either be killed or be forced to run off. Should they return after the smoke has cleared, pop more smoke, rinse and repeat.

3.) Repair! Don't waste your units! A repair truck is only 700 points, and it can make a world of difference. Have it hang back behind some cover so it won't be spotted. Whenever a unit gets critically damaged, send it back to the repair truck. If you are constantly trading off units, you may not have as much initial firepower as the person fighting all his units to the death, but at least you don't have to wait a whole minute waiting for reinforcements to traverse the map. This strategy is absolutely necessary to victory when attacking the farther strategic points because the enemy will always have the advantage in numbers. (faster reinforcing means more enemies to fight)

4.) Facing off with infantry: infantry are extremely effective against armor at close quarters. This must be used to your advantage. Armor has a much longer range so be sure to lay down some HEAT/WP/HE-Frag shells when you can. Should the enemy get caught moving his infantry through open fields, make him pay! Don't let it go as you can easily slaughter his entire force with anti infantry rounds and by just running them over. Try to avoid going through narrow areas of forest too. Too often there will be infantry waiting in ambush and that is the worst possible way to get caught. The best thing you can do at this point is pop smoke and run through or away.

Remember: when the infantry are hiding in the forest, napalm is your friend, when they are in the open, use light artillery barrages, and when they are in the buildings, use gas attacks or laser guided bombs. The latter is more expensive to deal with groups of infantry, but if there is a single large building giving you a problem, don't bother with the gas, just drop a laser guided bomb on its roof.

5.) Facing off with other armor: Never match your strengths with your opponents strengths, find their weakness and exploit it. If you see them approaching before they see you, set up a defense that will expose your frontal armor but force them to expose their side. The best way to accomplish this is to have two different groups facing the same entrance. The enemy cannot point at both and will leave his side exposed while you have the advantage in only your frontal armor being exposed. When facing off against a larger/stronger force, never fight them head on. Hide in back alleys and wait for them to go by before rushing up behind them, hide behind forests (preferably the kind with no hostile infantry) and give them a nasty surprise when they drive by. APCs and light tanks don't stand a chance against the heavier kinds, but their missiles are excellent with hit and run tactics. While your heavy tanks are exchanging shells with theres, send a few APCs or light tanks as a screening force and fire a few missiles into the enemies rear end before running away. First, it is incredibly annoying to chase after something faster and more nimble than you and second, it does a fair amount of damage. Not to mention, if they do try and chase you, your heavy tanks will get a good shot at their weak rear armor.

Remember: Always mind your facing when both attacking and defending. This is the stuff that will win and lose you battles if executed properly.

Re: World in Conflict Tips/strategies

I saw a fairly cool trick with medium arty on US side--he basically moved up fairly close and shot units with them. And they were hard to chase down too...
