World in Conflict Beta OVER.. What's your plans?

Well folks..now that the Open BETA has officially ended, I assume our next foray into WIC will be the release in Sept. I don't think there are many bugs so I think they can make the release...
I pre-ordered it from Amazon the second day I played it.. it hit a nerve with me I guess.. (I got the Deluxe edition with a Chunk of the Berlin Wall.. I anticipate a small CHIP of it)..

Whats your thought on the Purchase of it..and the TG Clan? Who will be battling in the Fall??

I'll get it, me thinks but not for sure that any clans started during the beta will be wiped along with stats and such. Have to get all that started.

I will not be joining you in WIC. Just didn’t like the game. It has some very nice features but failed to keep me interested for long.

Re: World in Conflict Beta OVER.. What's your plans?

I'm planning to pick it up. Overall, the game is exciting to watch and play. The graphics are insane, in fact last night I was playing around with the spectator mode and was following units around at ground level. Just like Company of Heros, World in Conflict developers spared no expense at the details even at the ground level. It was thrilling watching the units engage their opponents close up . The graphics for the missle trails, smoke deployment, explosions, bomb craters, artillery, and missle strikes were just impressive from my camera angle.

At first, I was scepticle because even with all that eye candy the game was overwhelming with options I've never ran into before in any other RTS game. I really started to appreciate the game once I started to get the hang of each class. What was icing on the cake for me was finding people that actually DID work together as a team and supported each other, it wasn't as rare as I originally thought. I'm hoping communities like TG will produce mature gamers that will perpetuate this play style once it's released.

What would've been cool is if they had a commander position, very much like battlefield 2. That coordinating role would've had a lot of potential.

Wow.Commander per side... That would be neat... Maybe in Clan matches that would be standard Fare?

What I do like is that the Mod programming for this should be Easy (for those who know Python)..so we may be in for some wicked mods... I just hope we get lots of cool new maps...

Well, I still need to pick up ArmA, that doesn't really count. And of course the new CoH but that doesn't count either. And then.....

Re: World in Conflict Beta OVER.. What's your plans?

Good article Boudreux!

“So even though people can tank rush, and get a hold of everything, seconds later, since they did a deep rush undefended, people from the other team can wipe them out easily, turning the tides. “

Excellent point and one of the many reasons I really enjoyed this game. This is another aspect about the game that reminds me of Company of Heroes: It’s not over until it’s over.

“Looking at the game, we have a mega-map top-down view, so we could theoretically make one person the owner of all of the tactical aid, who then hands out resources to everybody. That one guy could theoretically be the only one allowed to do requests and give orders.

But looking at it, we found it's much better if teams, as they get more and more accomplished, skilled and serious, that a person becomes the commander gradually, without us building in the systems.”

I wish they included this option. Since they didn’t, I wonder if we’ll quickly find people jumping in clans for organized teamwork with strong leadership.

“Everything from how you do requests - note that it's called requests and not orders - because you can ask for requests, but you can't order them to do it, they don't have to obey.”

Another reason why playing with pubbies is going to be challenging. I think if we can get enough people on TG to form a WIC Clan, our core principles of following orders and playing as a team will bring us success. Without a dedicated commander position in game, I can imagine us discussing who would like to volunteer as CO for the round between games and taking turns at it. The CO calls the unit assignments (support, air, infantry, etc) similar to how an SL calls for kits in BF2 in-between and during matches.

There’s a lot of potential in this game boys and girls, I looking forward to picking it up when it is released. Coincidently, it’s getting released around the same time as my birthday. Clawhammer and Derdmeh, if you’re wondering what to get me…
