Stop the nuke addiction!

Please, for the love of god, stop going for nukes all the time. It seems every time I hop onto a WiC server, I hear 10 yearolds screaming for TA so the can launch a nuke into the enemies drop zone, and half the time, to my dismay, the players oblige. Nukes may be pretty, but are only useful in certain situations. On large maps, a nuke will have just about nill effect on the enemy and for a cost of 80 TA, it better be damn well devastating to be worth it.

When using a nuke is appropriate:

-When trying to hold a point on assault maps, a nuke will wipe out the bottlenecked troops and buy you time to reorganize
-When the enemy is entrenched in a city or heavily wooded area and cannot be dislodged by other means (multi carpet bombing runs usually works better in this situation)
-When a vital position is overrun and must be neutralized immediately, only do this when you have enough armor ready to go and take the points and fortify

When using a nuke is NOT appropriate:

-When firing it at the enemies dropzone, honestly, this is a complete waste, the enemy will just move their dropzone and will be back in the fight in less than 20 seconds
-When carpet bombing, napalm, artillery, airstrikes, tank busters, mortars, daisy cutters, fuel air bombs, ect. will do the same job for less
-When you don't need it. If you don't have an immediate need for a nuke, don't shoot it.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I agree with you on this..

When I was playing the beta and the demo I got so damn tired of people crying for TA points so they could get all the points for dropping a nuke. It was never a question of if we don't nuke we won't win they just wanted the overall points.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I usually nuke when a) the enemy is all botlenecked, especially on that submarine base level, b) its the very end of the game and I have the TA, or c) I want to neutralize a command point and ill drop some light tanks or w/e after the nuke to cap it. Usually though I'll spend my ta on other things, I've found a bunch of smaller ta's like tank busters and airdrops are usually more effective than a nuke.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I hate it when people scream for TA for a nuke and then whine at you if you spend your hard earned TA on 2 carpet bombings instead.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

One thing that does irk me is when you've called in a strike that takes a while, like the CAS strike which takes 20 seconds, and some douche bag decides to call in a precision arty or regular arty on the same place, scaring away or destroying whatever is there before and causing you to waste 12 TA, while he gets the points

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

This game is great, but as with BF2 it needs a TG-syle of play.

And as for the nukes....I totally agree.

KEEP YOUR Childfingers of the buttonplease.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

TAs in general need to come down faster. I have been saying it since the beta. The game is just too fast paced to expect to have an enemy sit still for 12 seconds for an A-10/Frogfoot/Harrier to come in for a run. It's why heavy artilery is probably the best power other then a nuke and infantry transport.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

agreed with RGM. There so much that you need to lead the enemy by half the map if you want to hit.

Personaly, i have never used a nuke, best TA ive used is a carpet bomb. And i agree that a nuke is over used. 2 carpet bombs will have the same if not greater effect, while still costing the same amount (or close enough)

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

It's a good thing that TA's take so long, otherwise you would be completely frustrated on a tactical level. As it is now, you know you need to keep your units moving, to keep them alive. Plus, it isn't realistic that your arty is automatic, or that air support is on the spot.

I too agree that nukes are mostly counterproductive when used, especially by a teammate. I much prefer many small TA's to one big one.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I like the fact that you can get CAS or concentrated arty. They both do about the same damage, but CAS is cheaper but takes 20 seconds, as opposed to arty being more expensive but takes half the time to reach its target. Gives you some nice variety.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I love the fact that By the Time you get to the Airport on Offense... some fool thinks they gotta Nuke it...Stopping any chance (or delaying it) of Capping it...
Plus... Who can deny...that Carpet Bombing ROCKS!!! I have yet to be able to do it... But have been the victim of it numerous times... I just can't out run those beasties.....

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

Carpet bombs are the best all rounders, with daisy cutters being less good all rounders. Airstrikes are good for destroying fortifications and clearing out CPs, just make sure some moron doesn't drive into it in the 20 secs it takes.

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I prefer a set of carpet bombing of CPs and backfield so your guys can go in... and a couple daisys instead of ZOMG NUKES WOW 10 FPS, HURRY TAKE THE CPS!

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I was playing earlier today and a guy typed in 'only 17 TA for nuke!' and I was just thinking 'so what? Earn the TA yourself'. I was tempted to type in 'Who cares? I only need 63 TA for a nuke!'. It was on the Christmas Cascade falls map, and some poor fool gave the guy the points he needed. He then proceeded to drop the nuke on the high school command point (we were the russians) and killed a grand total of...maybe 2 infantry squads and an APC. Not very much considering.

Keep your TA and let them earn what they need for their nuke to get their points!

Re: Stop the nuke addiction!

I disagree with not sharing TA, it is a valid tactic when you need to make a game changing multi nuke or carpet bomb, but just be aware of those kiddies that will just drop an arbitrary nuke when you don't need it.
