A Glimpse into what pays Manny's WoW Bill

Hey guys, Figured I'd give you a bit of insight into what I get to deal with during a regular day of work. (For those that don't know, I work for Diageo North America as a Consumer Care Specialist. (I'm actually a group lead, so I don't deal with consumers as much as I used to, but I still get calls occassionally, but mostly only to deal with angry consumers.

My favourite so far was the lady who, after hearing that I worked 'North of Minneapolis', said 'Well, isn't it a shame that you weren't on the bridges the other day.'

Yeah, she was a doll.

Anyways! funny Email we recieved a while ago.

Message : i would like to complain about the reent change of the captain morgan logo. how dare you defile the once bad ass hard as core image of this long beloved mascott. for starters, only one pistol now instead of two? that to me says biggity-bitch! he's all cartoony and **** now. and what about the sword. the bad as **** handle and the cool ass tastles? now its just a plain cheap sword that no ballin ass pirate would be caught dead with.the barrel is much less hardcore and looks like it would be filled with wine or some bitch-esque vodka cooler instead of the fine rum that the company he represents provides for my drinking pleasure. where is the sash? has he forgotten his roots? too much fame? too many parties with mad bitches? shame on you captain. forgetting your heritage. the frills on his collar look like he cheaped out and just has a napkin chillin there now.and the boots. they look like some swede sissy boots instead of badass leather boots that the captain used!
to be reppin.i can't even begin to express my displeasure. you have defiled the image of this great captain and made him a maggoty eatin bitch.even his face is less devious and now he looks like he's sold out when he used to be smiling like i just dun pwned ya **** now deal wit it biotch. the whole outfit is all wrong. he's lost his pizzazz, his street cred and my respect as a captain. more like midshipman morgan. who am i supposed to look up to now? that beefeater gin gay face? no thank you. with his frilly shoes and gayer than gay hat. needless to say i am very displeased and would like to see the triumphant return of the old captain. a captain i would gladly serve instead of this **[Edited for Family Content: Imagine him saying 'somebody who drinks a certain white and sticky fluid that may, or may not be bodily in origin.]** i see on my bottle. i am a devotee of this fine rum and have no quarells with your fine product but please, would you rather see a badass captain who obviously gets his pwn on 24/7 or some bitch ass cartoon photoshoped ****head who couldnt pwn a n00b? i beg of you, bri!

We actually contacted him back shortly afterwards. He was ADAMANT about Captain Morgan's new look. We managed to calm him down, and reassure him that the good captain didn't need tassles on his sword to pwn noobs.

That note wasn't from me Manny, I promise, but I assure you I would rather see a badass captain who obviously gets his pwn on 24/7.

I have nothing that good story-wise, though I will share this one. When I was in college I worked at the college computer store and we'd often have calls from the various staff asking bizarre questions about the technology they were trying to use. This one lady had purchased a laptop from us a few days previously. She called and asked if we would sell her a replacement for her battery since hers had went bad. I told her that we did sell batteries but that since she just bought her laptop that she could bring the battery in and we'd replace it for her. She said that she didn't need to do that since it was for the university computer. I told her that's fine that we had one in stock and she could pick it up whenever. She then told me that she wanted to go ahead and buy "a bunch" since she didn't want to have to keep calling everytime one of the "rechargeable batteries ran out" that she'd just throw it away and use the new one. That's your tax money working for ya

If you read the general and sandbox forums I'm sure I've made my stance clear on my experience with government assisted health care (AKA Throw your money at people who rip you off and then throw more money to pay indirectly for what you just threw money at).

12 year old comes in on medi-cal asking to go to labor and delivery. She has been told by her OB doctor that she could 'delivery any day' due to a condition that I won't even try to spell. Okay nothing unusual so far, typical case for the Emergency Department since illegal alien hispanic families with Medi-Cal in California are known to ask their children to get pregnant early and often so they can extend their health insurance since it's 'free' and paid for by the government and they commonly use the ED as their private doctors because they'd have to pay a nominal copay if they had a personal physician. But the fact that she knew a medical term that I never recognized and was told she could 'delivery any day' by her OB doctor was something different. Call down to LND to call in the Obcheck and ask about the terminology.

Me: "Pt is X weeks pregnant and here for abd pains. She says that her OB doctor told her she could delivery any day now because she is <mangled word>"
Pt: "No its actually <repeats word>"
Me: "Okay...correction she's <repeats word properly>"
Nurse: "<Repeats word>? Never heard of that. Hold on one second."
<hold for 2 minutes>
Nurse: "Okay I just asked the doctor on call and he knows that patient. She can be seen in the ED because we can't do anything for her here"
Me: "ED? But she's over 20 weeks pregnant"
Nurse: "Yes, but she is <repeats word> which is a fancy way of saying her baby has no brain."
Me: "Err...hold on a sec."
<puts nurse on hold and goes to back away from patient>
Me: "What do you mean the baby has no brain?"
Nurse: "Means the baby is not developing a brain so technically its already dead. She could 'delivery any day' because they're expecting her to have a miscarriage. Apparently they already told her the baby was dead and that they could force a miscarriage early in the pregnancy so she wouldn't have to carry it for so long. She told her doctor we were evil asking her to have an abortion just because she was 11 and god would help her deliver a healthy baby. She got pretty worked up over it so the doctor just told her to be careful because she was <repeat word here> and 'could deliver any day'."
Me: "Ah...but that means she's had a dead baby inside her for months now."
Nurse: "Yes. It was her choice to keep it for as long as possible. She doesn't want to get rid of it in hopes that god will give her a healthy baby instead."
Me: "Alright, thanks. I'll tell the charge nurse"
<hangs up>

Yay! Your tax dollars at work in California people! Girl gets pregnant at 11 years old and has a baby without a brain. Keeps it for several months and we pay for all her medical services to keep her from having a miscarriage of a corpse.

I worked for Tech support on the college that I went to. Some of my favorite issues that i ran into:

Got a call saying their computer wasn't working....went out to the room and I couldn't get it to turn on....of course it would help if it was plugged in...

A more popular issue was that in all of the dorm rooms there were 2 data jacks on each side of the room: 1 for phone and 1 for Internet (both clearly marked). At the beginning of the school year we would get at least 20 calls saying that their internet was not working...we'd go out to the room play around....and then end up pulling the Ethernet cord out of the phone jack and putting it into the right jack...

I had to deal with an irate woman one time. She claimed her yard sale ad didn't run in the paper. She spent over an hour screaming profanities at me and how I was an incompetent moron who couldn't even flip burgers for a living, after she finally calmed down enough to be coherent, I asked her what the ad was and flipped open the paper. I skimmed through to the Yard Sales and what do I find? Her ad sitting at the very top of the freakin' yard sales. I told her it was there, to which she replied "Well I guess I'll just have to go look then" and slams the phone down in my ear. Now Im utterly stunned. She called and screamed for over an hour and she DIDN'T even check to see if the ad was there??

People today amaze me.
