About the achievement in Obsidian Sanctum...

It seems there has been a pretty big misunderstanding as to what the ability "Lava Strike" is.

Lava Strike is NOT the Flame Wall that is summoned.

Lava Strike is actually the small AoE damage that happens periodically and randomly on the platform the boss is fought on. Basically when he summons his adds balls of fire will fly out of the surrounding lava and land all over the place causing 2000-3000 fire damage on normal and 5000-6000 fire damage on heroic to anything in the area. That damage is the lava strike you have to avoid. Some of those balls will turn into the fire elementals that have to be tanked and DPSed down.

Getting the achievement is utterly random in all instances except for one. In fact, its so hard to plan to get this achievement that it could be called the achievement of "Epic Fail".

The only way to successfully ensure you get it is to die before he summons his first wave of adds. Corpses won't get hit by lava strike thereby getting you the achievement.

Light, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they ticked me off.

Re: About the achievement in Obsidian Sanctum...

Death soon in the fight? Yea, I have the achievement, probably because of that. The Paladin in charge of the elementals missed one, which enraged on our healer. Sprint to the mob and pick it up, while calling in vent for someone to taunt off me. Didn't happen, and I died before the first wave of elementals was down.

Granted, that was our first time in there, but I did get the achievement...but hey! I was able to call out lava and loose adds.

On our second run in there, at least two people go the achievement that stayed alive the whole fight, so I believe your underlying logic is wrong.

Pft. Wrong? Did they actively strive to avoid all the random lava blasts during the fight? Did they plan to get the achievement? They got it because they were lucky in a random set of circumstances. Not exactly something you can plan for and work to achieve now is it.

As for you...you died so you never got a chance to get hit randomly after the first wave. That's epic fail. :P

Aestryd got it last week in a 10 man run by the way. It was utterly surprising and unexpected to us all. Lucky bastard!

So yeah. Previous statement still stands. The only way to ensure 100% that you'll get this achievement is to die early in the fight in a pique of failure. Other than that just hope you get lucky and be in the right place at the right time.
