OK, I admit that I am dumb (at least in some things).

I want to get the Major Mana Potion Recipe, but I read that I have to complete a quest before the vendor who sells the recipe becomes visible at Scholomance. I'm having trouble identifying the quest that I need to complete. Thottbot "chat" indicates that it is the "butcher" quest. Would someone enlighten me as to the full, proper name of the quest?

Magnus Frostwake is a ghost and a specialty vendor in the hidden town in the Scholomance instance on the island of Caer Darrow in Western Plaguelands. He is the only vendor that sells a number of high level plans:

It will take a strong group of 5 level 60 characters to complete these quests to gain access to Magnus Frostwake. All of the plans except the Storm Gauntlets are sold as bind on pickup so you need to be there to learn those plans.

So...next item on the agenda is having a good 5 man group to tackle these steps. That will be high on my agenda for the next week or so starting after I'm back from a long vacation weekend. Any volunteers?

The nice thing about the series of quests to obtain the trinket is that you dont need to clear the entire instance each time.
The first quest in the series, you might as well clear it. You are only a few rooms away from killing the boss.
The second quest, you need to kill Jandice Barov. I never found killing her as hard as actually getting there. As you are fighting your way in, take a right in the room before you get to the whelps. I believe this is right before you get to the deed to Darrowshire or Southshore. I don't remember exactly. You will fight your way through the halls with running patrols and "green bomb" elites. I have found that fighting your way through this room to be as, if not more difficult that fighting anything else in the instance. Make sure you loot the bag of horrors and then go turn it in.
No matter how fast you were, there will be respawns. Clear those on the way out and you will be able to breeze right back through them as long as you didn't reset the instance.
To kill Kirtonos, use the blood of heroes to summon him in the small room just off of the right side of the second room you cleared. This is the room with the summoners in six different groups standing on the pile of bones. ** Very important!** When you summon him, make sure your entire group is in the room. The gate closes preventing anyone one the other side from helping. I know, I speak from experience here. If you have a strong group, you can kill him with four as long as your primary healer isn't the one locked outside. Once you kill him, loot his body and turn in the quest.
You may want to summmon him over and over because he drops some nice items. (I do know he drops the Valor boots! But I don't have them yet.) The big problem with this is you need to Kill Jandice Barov each time.
