I've been seriously thinkin of goin that spec Zedd. Right now as you know I'm still exclusively Arcane with some frost. I just love having lots of mana and resists/antiresists.

But, alas, damage per encounter is where it's at. So either I'm gonna respec to this one or start switching to DPS gear to take advantage of the mana gain more effectively.

That's a hell of a nice spec. It's good to see mages going fire despite the fact that MC is fire based. There's a lot we're doing not in MC and this build will certainly be mega useful in the 20man stuff.

Yes BUT with Elemental Precision and Arc. Sub. they won't resist as much, when i was fire spec b4 what i saw mostly was either a full resist or no resist. So with an increased 6% chance to NOT be resisted and even more with Arc. Sub. it should go well, also with they was combustion works now, i can GAURENTE three crits with Pyroblast, all do ~1200 (more with ToEP) and then they also burn for an extra 600. Plus with the Imp. Scorch I gain an extra 15% fire damage, also with all the +crit and Master of Elements, I won't run out of mana real fast.

Precisely. I've actually been very successful using fire in MC, and thats even WITHOUT improved scorch. No reason you cant use it in there aside from just looking different then everyone else firing missiles and ice.
I came across a nice ring the other day that adds like 30 damage to all fire spells plus resist... would come in handy with a spec like that

OK, you are sayin' you are crit'in at around 1200 damage or so? I thought mages were supposed to be doin' mega-damage. What are typical crit values for various classes? Dreadd crits around 1800-2000 or so, but i've heard some of the hunters and warriors saying they crit well over that.

yes.. mages do mega damage when there are many targets... mages are the king of AOE.. notice damage meters when the 5 core hounds before luci and mag... mages will go from about 6th in damage to pwn-all-first... because the more targets the raid is dealing with.. the more dps a mage does... single target damage... rogues and hunters own at that... my typical crit with aimed shot is 2400... with an over-the-top-rare crit being 3k (best ever in BG was 3102... poor mage) as for warriors big crits.. those are normally executes, which basically takes all their rage... and converts it into damage... ( i think every point of rage is equal to 30 damage or something... on top of normal hit or something

If I get Seal of Command to crit on a regular melee crit, I've seen the combined damage go up to 2000, but that was buffed.

Re: NEW Spec! AND IM LOVIN' IT!

Ok the way it goes is there. With CoE up, my scorches are ~500 each, they are 150 mana each and are 1.5s cast. So 750 mp total and 7.5s and i have 5 scorches on the target, ive done about 2500 so far. Also if any of those crit i gain 45 mana back (Not Including Judge Wis.). Once those are up i cast fire ball. 3s cast does ~1200 damage. So in 10.5s ive dont 3700 damage, More if I crit b/c with each crit they burn for an additional 40% of the damage plus they take the extra damage, and not including using my ToEP which increases my damage by 175 per spell for 15 seconds.

All in all, as long as CoE is on the target i can destroy it, however, with out it my damage is about 1/2 to 1/3

Re: NEW Spec! AND IM LOVIN' IT!

do u have a DPS tracker? id like to see what ur DPS is in a giant/destroyer fight

    Chair = 650 or so
Chirp = 600 or so ( i have about 140 more +spell damage in the past 2 days alone so that may be different =D)

note: u may think 600 dps is alot.. but it is not that far ahead of average(for damage classes) on single target damage

Re: NEW Spec! AND IM LOVIN' IT!

Actually, rogues do the best at single target damage. Hunters, do slightly less damage at the initial burst and catch up then surpass in a prolonged fight. They shine when there are 2-3 closely grouped targets due to multishot. Any higher than 5 and mages start to shine, but the mobs in question have to be AoE viable since their spells are horrendously inefficient.

For the Core Packs it is actually ridiculous how much a hunter can out damage a mage. -.-

Explosion trap (instant)aprox 550-600 damage per hound.
Volley (6 second channel) 440 damage per hound.
Multishot (instant) roughly 500-600 to three hounds (1200-1500 crit)
Aimed Shot (3 second wind up) 800-900 to 1 hound (I see around 2200 with the rare 3k+ crit too).
2 regular shots (after MS and AS) about 400-450 each.

For some reason 2/3 of my multishots always crit on the core pack hounds with a 100% rate after they're down. So yeah...you can fit all that into 10 seconds for hunter AoE lovin.

Where you are actually seeing the DPS hikes are probably the imps. That's a lot of imps and they go down too fast for a full hunter shot cycle.
My sanity is not in question...
It was a confirmed casualty some time ago.

Light, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they ticked me off.
