Re: Australian TV - Kid Addicted to WoW
This is not a story about a kid who plays to much WoW. This is a story of a parent who is so grossly incompetent and lacking in fundamental parenting skillls that she should be brought up on charges.
Rather than an expose on "Look how much this kid plays and look what it's doing to him" there should be a story on "Parenting, what happens when you let your kids do whatever they want".“Waiting to be awakened by some unexpected thunderous roar, never dying...the sleeping giant lives and will sleep no more”. - John Seabrook

Re: Australian TV - Kid Addicted to WoW
Yeah, but such a story would never be popular because it would pretty much be telling everyone who ever complained about outside influences that its all really about bad parenting.
Taking lessons from here I can predict one of the arguements against it...
Ahem...
I don't know why this thread just reminded me of Gord and his 'horrors or retail' stories, but he's one of my favorite Canadians. ^_^

Re: Australian TV - Kid Addicted to WoW
I keep thinking that if this kid DIDN'T play WoW, what ELSE would he be doing...? It's not so much a statement about WoW as it is a statement about the kid and his addictive tendencies. Heck, I remember lots of invective directed against old-style pre-computer D&D as being addictive/satanic/violent/etc. and sure to corrupt an entire generation...sorta like rock'n'roll a generation before that.
Somehow, going out for sports teams or volunteering for community service or taking a part time job just DON'T leap to mind for this person.Beep

Re: Australian TV - Kid Addicted to WoW
Best post yet.
I totally agree.
The parent failed to prevent this.
Also, you Wow guys are funny like no other.
I play BF2, but one day would like to get into D and D online.
I love role playing, this sounds like an awsome set up.
I'll need to change my name to some thing a little bit more respectable.
