    Re: I've decided: DKP sux

I think with BWL finally coming to the forefront a lot of our DKP issues will automatically resolve themselves.

Much of the DKP debate is a result of grinding MC to its usefulness. It seems natural for this to occur during the "limbo" periods when we're between instances.

Once BWL and other places open up is when DKP will REALLY show its value. However, people will need to watch even more closely how valuable the loot they are taking actually is to their toon, if it's not - then pass to a guildie.

A real key to this is simply - KNOW UR LOOT.

    A prime example:
I'm now a fortunate owner of a Blade of Vaulted Secrets (thanks creebers - ninja roller)
I KNEW I'd be gettin exalted and the blade soon, so I purposely didnt bid on the MC mageblade or staff of dominance. However, a sorcerous dagger dropped in MC which is the perfect fill-in piece until I could get the AQ blade (which took about 4 weeks i think). This saved the dagger from gettin DEed - so I took it (all is well).

Also, I plan on obtaining the robes from AQ. I already know these robes are tier 2 equivalent. My current chestpiece is better dmg then tier 1 (so I wont be bidding on tier 1 robes, unless they'd get DEed). I ALSO probably wont bid on tier 2 robes if they dropped in BWL, leavin a slot for a fortunate guildie to take it since most likely I'll be gettin the robes from AQ (unless someone else takes em).

Where the above plan becomes a problem is when people who KNOW they're gonna loot the tier 2 robes shortly STILL roll on the robes from AQ, or they may even already have an equivalent piece. This throws everything out of wack and really takes the value out of 20-man raids (20-mans are designed to take the pressure off of 40-man DKP raids). Can u imagine looting such a piece and the next day fighting a boss who drops the equivalent tier 2 that completes ur set?? (cringe)

The solution to all this is either add DKP for EVERY raid, eliminate DKP altogether and go completely RL/CL controlled need/greed, or a combination of the two. The combination is simply DKP for 40-mans and fellow guildies paying more attention to where the loot goes and how to best advance their class as a whole.

Another solution is simply for people to pick a path for their toon to take and try their best to stick to it. Too often people try to cover EVERY base in the game with one toon, or even MULTIPLE toons. When this happens, you most likely are taking from someone else who's focus is a trait you view as simply an addition to your arsenal. This is the main reason I'm only playing 1 lvl 60, and also the reason there's an unwritten rule "alts should never take important loot from mains."

People talk about Class balance and how it's important to a Raid. It goes deeper then that, however. Talent/trait/racial balance is also important. Your loot choices should match these things. Slow frost-mages shouldnt roll or bid on proc. items. Arcane mages shouldnt bid on elemental buff items, etc. This way, taken as a WHOLE the class is much much stronger then one arcane mage with all the goodies and the other mages with substandard gear that doesnt really apply to the Story of their toon. You want variety in your class... not clones

If all this is done, no matter how crappy or good our DKP system is we'll be the stronger guild for it.

Im happy with the DKP, we used DKP for teh 5 years i played EQ, and it always seemed to work.. Sometimes I wondered how certain peeps got so much DKP since it wasnt layed out like it is here, but thats neither here nor there. like mentioned, something may need to change when BC comes out, but BC isnt out yet, so there is no need to worry about that for the time being.. If someone wants to horde all thier DKP and wait for better items, so be it.. Roll on the item that the others dont want, then you can stop complaining about getting loot.

    Re: I've decided..

    My 2 cents:

I have no problem with our current DKP system. I have never had a ton of DKP and yet here I am with 6 of 8 tier 1 pieces. A epic Bow and Epic Gun, and epic claw, some epic bracers, A stupid leaf and a Dragon sinew. I have never been top of the charts in DKP, yet I get what I need.

Not RAIDing cause you don't have DXP is crap. First off if your not here you can't earn DKP, Second if your not here you can't get drops. We have done enough MC that there is a very good chance that those with more DKP than you all ready have the item that dropped or something better and will pass and you can get it.

I celebrate when a piece I want drops even if I know I will not get it because that means the guild is progressing in their gearing up. It also means that there is one more person who is going to pass on that item next time and I might be able to get mine.

    Re: I've decided..

Let me throw in my 2 cents.

Since we started DKP, we've had 751 items bought with DKP. Of those items, I can think of three cases where we've had silent dissent over priority. I've seen one error due to master looting. And, despite the fact that we're debating it here, I can think of two situations where anyone has said, at least to the extent to which I'd be aware, that the loot rules are imbalanced. Both of those issues were resolved fairly and quickly.

So, negating a master looting error (no one's fault, easy mistake), we've had 5 discussions about drops in 751 total drops. That's a 99.33% satisfaction rate.
