About Tactical Gamer...

About Tactical Gamer in World of Warcraft
Tactical Gamer is an Alliance-side guild on the US-Thunderhorn server. We have existed in roughly the same form, with relatively consistent leadership, since around March 2005 shortly after the launch of WoW. Our roster tends to hover between 350-400 characters with an estimated 75-100 individual accounts. Our membership consists exclusively of mature gamers (typically over 18 years old) who respect one another and the server community at-large. Although we pride ourselves on catering to a wide range of interests with our diverse membership, we are currently structured to be a significant presence in end-game raiding on our server.

Tactical Gamer is also part of a much larger community of gamers from which we derive our guild name. For those whose gaming activities take them outside of WoW, feel free to explore all that the broad Tactical Gamer community has to offer. For more details on the community, look to this post.

Our Values
Tactical Gamer was built on a foundation of maturity and respect towards one another. We expect each member to embody these qualities in their every interaction while displaying our guild tag. Please read our Guild Creed & Values for more details.

Our Officers
Tactical Gamer is currently led by five officers:
  • Talara(GM)
  • Gaviin
  • Lunatg
  • Wintrow
  • Yotion
Any questions about the guild or its members should be directed to one of us.

Our Guild Ranks
Our highest level of non-officer is the Corporal. These individuals are trusted members of the guild who have accepted responsibility for organizing many of the guild’s activities, from raiding to PvP to social events.

The majority of our roster occupies the Member and Alt ranks. All members of the guild must specify a main toon as their identity in the guild. Any alternate toons are designated with the Alt rank. We currently have no restrictions around changing main toons, though this is a relatively official process that must be acknowledged by an Officer. We also have no guild policy restricting alts from our roster.

A select few members are periodically awarded the rank of Veteran. Though this rank currently carries no tangible benefits, it exists to recognize those who truly embody the spirit of Tactical Gamer and whose contributions to the guild in their time have warranted special recognition. For more information on achieving this honor, please read this post.

New additions to our roster will occupy the Recruit rank for their trial period. More information on Recruits follows below.

For Recruits
Once invited into our guild, individuals will immediately be promoted to the Recruit rank and a trial period will begin. The trial period is intended to allow both the guild and the Recruit an opportunity to evaluate the new relationship and determine whether there is mutual interest in one another going forward. Recruits will not be promoted to full Member status until guild Officers (or Corporals) have gotten to know the Recruit and feel comfortable that they will embody our guild values and contribute positively to Tactical Gamer going forward. The minimum trial period for Recruits is 30 days.

It is strongly recommended that new Recruits make an effort to get to know other members early in their trial periods. Read our various guild forums and participate as you feel comfortable. Be polite and friendly in guild chat in game. Group with members for questing or instances. Get on TeamSpeak and introduce yourself. Not all members you interact with may share your interests or priorities in WoW, but all will be respectful and welcoming.

For those Recruits joining Tactical Gamer to raid (at any level of progression), the Recruit status, in itself, does not impact your ability to raid. Each raid squad maintains their own set of rules on raiding and loot, which is explained further below.

Administrative Checklist
Upon admittance to the guild, please take care of the following administrative items:
  1. Edit your signature with your in-game character name so that we know who you are when you post in the forums. To do this, go to the Quick Links dropdown and select Edit Signature or follow this link.
  2. Set yourself up on TeamSpeak. Follow the instructions here to download the client, create your userID/password and connect to our TeamSpeak server. The WoW channels on TS are towards the bottom of the list once you connect to the server.
  3. If interested in raiding, register here to access our raid calendar and be able to sign up for raids going forward. Once you create your account, add your toon to your profile and notify an Officer in game; your account must be authorized on the site before you will be able to sign up for any raids. See below for additional information on raiding in Tactical Gamer before you attempt to sign up for raids.

Our Guild Bank
Like most guilds, Tactical Gamer leverages its guild bank for sharing items of interest with other members and for stockpiling resources to support our raiding efforts. Tabs in our guild bank are labeled and descriptions indicate their purpose. All guild members with a rank of Alt or above are free to deposit and withdraw items up to designated limits. It is expected that you contribute to the bank if you choose to withdraw from the bank; the bank does not exist for person gain.

Recruits are prevented from depositing or withdrawing items and gold from the bank. We feel this is in the best interest of all parties during the trial period.

Not all bank tabs are accessible to all guild members. Items stored in bank tabs designated for guild raiding squads are generally restricted to use by those members subject to approval by relevant raid leadership. However, all guild members are welcome to inquire of raid leadership on the availability of items in these tabs if interested.

Gold stored in the guild bank is used to fund guild social events and activities. Gold to support guild raiding activities is managed separately by respective raid leadership. Contributions to the general guild are always welcome (though not required) and can be done directly to the guild bank. Contributions to a specific raid squad should be directed to raid leadership.

Raiding in Tactical Gamer
Due to our large size and the diverse interests of our guild membership, raiding activities in Tactical Gamer are structured somewhat differently than in other guilds. Rather than having open sign ups, allowing anyone in guild interested in raiding on a given night a chance to raid, we have set up distinct “squads” of members with similar interests and capabilities. Each raid posted on our calendar is hosted by a distinct raid squad and sign-ups for those raids are generally limited to authorized squad members.

Each squad operates independently of overall guild leadership, but receives its support, so long as they adhere to the general principles of the squad structure and the values of the guild. Each squad has a designated leader responsible for managing the squad’s expectations, objectives, roster, loot guidelines, etc. So long as there is sufficient interest, new squads can be established by any existing member willing to work with guild Officers and assume responsibility for forming and maintaining the squad. Guidelines for this process can be found here. To join an existing squad, you should initiate a dialogue with that squad’s leadership.

Squad recruitment needs are summarized and updated in this thread. If interested in raiding with any of our squads, please check here first to see if we currently have openings. Our needs frequently change and spots open up regularly, so check back regularly for updates.

It is important to note that not all squads offer the same opportunities or have similar priorities. Some squads prioritize the social aspect of raiding and are less concerned with rapid progression. Other squads are quite interested in progressing, but also content to be patient with the process. Other squads have very high expectations on their personal performance and expect to progress at a rapid pace. Obviously not all squads will be a good fit for all members. A brief description of the current squads follows, along with their progression as of October 2008. Please click on the name of each squad for a link to their respective forums: reading the squad’s forums will give a better indication about each squad. Finally, contact the designated squad leaders for further details.

25man Squads
Delirium: Fills the gap between the traditional “hard-core” raider and the casual guild member. This collection of players emphasizes the camaraderie of raiding without the extreme pressure to rapidly progress. Delirium raids 25man content one night per week. Delirium is SSC 1/6 and TK 1/4.

Resurgent: The historic driver of end-game progression in Tactical Gamer. Resurgent generally raids 25man content 3-4 nights per week. Additional information about Resurgent’s direction with the approach of WotLK can be found here. Resurgent is MH 4/5 and BT 7/9.

10man Squads
Cocidius: A tight-knit squad of players who value the camaraderie of raiding with one another. Cocidius typically raids 10man content one night per week. They are ZA 4/6.

Defiant: One of the original 10man squads formed at the beginning of Burning Crusade to begin raiding KZ. Defiant prioritizes raiding 25man content in Resurgent over raiding 10man content, so raids generally occur on off-nights. Defiant cleared ZA early in 2008 and the majority of its members have acquired their [item]Amani War Bear[/item] mounts.

Illidan’s Fate: A squad with roots going back to the early days of Burning Crusade. It’s members typically enjoy raiding with any of their numerous alts, giving them flexibility in their class balance as needed based on availability of members. Illidan’s Fate typically raids 2-3 nights per week and are ZA 5/6.

Visions: Our most recently formed squad, Visions consists primarily of players with real-life friendships who are relatively new to the world of raiding. Visions raids 2-3 times per week and has recently fully cleared KZ. Additional information about Visions’ direction with the approach of WotLK can be found here.

Any questions about Tactical Gamer should be directed to Wintrow or Yotion in-game or via Private Message on this website. If you like what you see and are interested in joining, please feel free to fill out an application to initiate further discussions.
