Arrow Warrior Gear and BWL

Here's what we're going to need for BWL success...(sooner than you think)

Six warriors with:

1. FR of 250 or more
2. Defense of 400 or more (not both at the same time )
3. Armor of 8,000 or more

So, as we are figuring out how to manage this, I'd like each level 60 warrior to respond IN THIS THREAD...

A. Your maximum unbuffed FR
B. Your maximum Defense
C. Your maximum Armor

For any warrior under 250 FR unbuffed, I need to know item by item what FR gear you now have. If we are to manage guild materials to build DI armor, I will need that much detail.

If we need to help you with other items (+Def), then we need some advance planning for that too (Scholo, Strat and DM North). Most of the rest will come from running MC with us...but you HAVE to be there for the drops.

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

Beep,

1. Currently I'm sitting at an FR of 268. I have all the mats for the DI boots I just need to find someone to make them. That will buff my FR from 268 to 284. I also have an Ony Scale Cloak.

2. My defense is currently at 378

3. My armor is currently 8216

I'll put on my tanking gear so you can see my equipment.

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

Just to keep it straight, Beep has (unbuffed):

338 FR (can add 15 or so to that but give up a lot of stats...switching to blues)

378 Def (can add another 15 or so to that but give up even more stats switching to blues)

8240 armor

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

FR 117
Def 365
Armor 7612

ok, here's the breakdown:
FR-
Head: Gyth's Skull of Fire Resist 509 Armor, 20 Stam, 14 FR, Def +9
Neck: Drakefire Amulet 10 Stam, 15 FR
Back: Cape of the Fire Salamander 41 Armor, 9 Stam, 6 Spir, 12 FR, (enchant +7 FR)
Chest: Hydralick Armor 567 Armor, 13 Str, 8 Agi, 20 Stam, 10 FR, (enchant Health +100)
Wrist: Emberplate Armguard of Stamina 261 Armor, 15 Stam, 10 FR
Hand: Gauntlets of Might 468 Armor, 22 Str, 17 Stam, 7 FR, Def +5 (enchant Agi +7)
Waist: Elemental Plate Girdle of FR 358 Armor, 17 Str, 10 Stam, 10 FR
Ring: Hematite Link of FR 14 FR
Trinket: Royal Seal of Eldre'Thalas 200 Armor, 10 FR
Trinket: Ward of Elements +8 All Resist

As far as Defense is concerned, I only have 4 slots without any: Bracers, Legs, Boots, and 1 Ring. I know it needs some work, but I think we're getting pretty close, and it's just going to take time.
If you want a breakdown of the rest of my gear, let me know, but I need to get to work now.

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

I will get Kel's normal gear updated on the roster tonight so you can just look at that for her +def gear. She still needs to get Draconian Deflector as well for both +defense and FR.

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

Here's material from an earlier post I did on +Defense Gear...

This post is about gear choices for warriors and represents the path I’ve followed. This post is about tanking gear choices. I’ll do another one later about FR gear choices.

+Defense FTW

The big thing against the instance bosses is to avoid being taken out by their massive critical strikes. For a level 60 player with 300 defense against a level 60 mob (level*5 = 300 weapon skill), the mob has a 5% chance to critically hit the player. For many bosses, a critical strike is 2,000+ damage. Two in a row will take down almost anyone that isn’t at full health. Any creature 3 levels higher than you will land crushing blows. At level 60, you will take crushing blows from Molten Destroyers, Lava Reavers, and boss creatures in Molten Core.
Defense is the skill that helps you avoid damage from your opponents. The official definition from Blizzard is:
  • Increases the chance of being missed by an attack.
  • Increases the chance to dodge, parry, and block.
  • Decreases the chance of being affected by a critical hit.
  • Decreases the chance of being affected by a "crushing blow".
  • Creatures that are higher level than your character can land crushing blows that deal increased melee damage. The chance of a crushing blow increases as the level difference between you and the opposing creature increases. Players never deal "crushing blows", only creatures.
In practice, equipping an item with +defense that one point of defense skill increases your chance to dodge by 0.04%, chance to block by 0.04%, and chance to parry by 0.04%. It has been stated by Blizzard that a point of defense reduces your chance to be critically hit by 0.04% - though your chance to be critically hit is relative to your opponent's weapon skill (and any +crit items they are wearing, of course).

The real benefit to defense skill is the reduction in critical hits. You can't dodge or parry every attack, but you can make it so you take virtually no critical hits in combat. It's generally spike damage - multiple critical hits and crushing blows - that kill tanks and overwhelm the ability of healers to keep you up.

How much defense is enough?

If you want to absolutely minimize your chance of being critically hit, the number is 440 defense skill - that will reduce the critical chance of any mob, boss or not, to effectively zero. At 425 defense, the chance that you will take a critical hit is less than 1% against anything you will encounter in the game right now, and will remain less than 1% even against level 64 mobs. Here’s the problem…you can't easily get 425 without going into green gear, or without having some very nice gear. At 365 defense, you have about a 3% chance of being critically hit by a level 63 mob, and 2.6% for level 60 mobs.

When is +defense worth getting?

I wouldn’t worry about it until you are at (or very near) level 60. Most +defense items are pre-MC end game. In my case, I worked on my shopping list from level 58 or so onward. I would always pick up a Valor set piece if I could, but that was an interim choice until I could get what I wanted.

Beep’s +Defense List

I will acknowledge my debt to Evergreen’s popular WoW forum post on this topic. That post has over 70,000 views to date. Here’s the list of gear I had as we began tackling MC:
While I didn't have this, the [Deathbone Chestplate] is also good with a huge +17 Def that can boosted another +3 def with a two-piece set bonus.

Base Defense Skill = 300
Anticipation Talent (Protection Tree Talent) = 10
Defense from items = 92
Total = 402
All these items except the Belt of Might are available BEFORE Molten Core, as quest rewards, instance drops or world drops (usually easiest to purchase at the AH). There are other choices of items that have +defense. The key is to plan and keep an eye out for what you want.

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

You do. Anticipation gives you +2 Defense for every point you put into, with a max of 5 points you can put into it, that is +10 Defense.

My gear isn't great, especially on FR, but here goes.

Unbuffed FR: 151
Defense: 363
Armor: 7213

I'll post my FR stuff when I'm on a computer that isn't completely lagalicious.

Re: Warrior Gear and BWL

I want to be clear that no one expects that any warrior can just rush right out and get 250 FR or 400 Def or 8,000 armor.

BUT...these are goals for us and represent an attainable objective.

RE: FR

We will need guild materials (Dark Iron, Fiery Cores, etc.) to make the Dark Iron pieces for high FR. We don't have a set program for that yet, but it will happen. Priority will go to the most "faithful" raiders, probably determined by DKP earned. Beep, Kitty and Bear (and the departed Phantom) have already received that help with materials based their role as Tank (or Offtank). The top ten DKP earned warriors (in order) as of 8/18/2006 are:
  1. Beep (FR Done)
  2. Kittywampus (FR Done)
  3. Phantom (FR Done, but no longer in guild)
  4. Halten
  5. Mikester (no longer in guild)
  6. Bearamar (FR Done)
  7. Uglyduck
  8. Kelilyse
  9. Fragmaniac
  10. Allakandre

RE: 8,000 Armor

We need to have our warriors running the end-game instances (especially ZG and MC) to get better gear...including the ZG epics and the Tier 1 pieces.

RE: Defense

400 Defense is a goal, not a minimum. If you are much below 375, you have a much increased chance of taking Critical Hits from the bosses...which is a fast trip to dirt nap land. At 375+, isolated 3-4,000 damage crits are probably survivable if you have enough stamina (HP) and your healers are on their toes.

Add in the need to have some arcane, shadow, nature and eventually frost resistances, and you will find yourself carrying a couple bags worth of alternate gear.
