They arent giving up on Halo they are going back in the game time. one of the other upcoming games is Halo:Reach which is where the SPARTAN II program was. The teaser for that is already out on the XBOX LIVE. Also they are actually making the movie because unlike with Zelda movie they aint running outta money anytime soon
