Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
Did you by chance purchase this console at BestBuy? If you did there may be a chance you can return it in store. I was listening to the latest episode of Buzz out Loud from cnet.com. When a listener wrote to the hosts. After Tom the host mentioned his own Xbox woes. The listener told him he returned his glitchy xbox to BB and they not only replaced the console with the new version with HDMI outputs. They also gave him a rebate of $54 since the new one cost less than the old one.

Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
Took a few days before I got my empty box to ship. In any case; I sent this thing back close to a month ago and the status on the XBox repair site just says "received at service center" and that's it.
Do they normally reimburse you and/or extend your Xbox live subscriptions when they take this long? Am I going to end up paying for two months of Live service that I can't even use?

Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
If you ever get it back, purchase an after-market add on fan like the intercooler
It works very well in keeping the unit cool.
Also, try to keep it in a very well ventilated area. The system does run hot but with 3 dual core cpus on it, that is going to happen.

Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
Mine was only gone less than 2 weeks from the day I sent it.....odd that it has taken so long.

Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
It is in a well ventilated area. I probably will get an aftermarket cooling system for it but that in and of itself pisses me off. I shouldn't have to spend more money to keep THEIR hardware from breaking. They should have built it properly to begin with and/or recalled all the defective units and replaced them with new ones.
The 360 does not have three dual core CPUs. It has a single three-core CPU.

Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
Yeah! I said that too. You preemptively copied me.

Well, I'll probably end up past the one month mark. Maybe they'll give me two months?
They were relatively confused when I called because they didn't have an info internally on the E74 error I was getting. I've found stuff on the net, but the MS support guy couldn't find any reference to that error anywhere.

Re: Xbox 360 Freezing
I apologize. I thought it had 3 dual-core 1.6ghz cpus for 6 cores at 9.6ghz but I stand corrected.
I agree you shouldn't have to purchase an after market add on to keep it cool but for 20 bucks (think that is what the intercooler cost when I got it) you might save some headaches. It's Microsoft gotta expect that.

If something happened to my 360 that would interfere with playing halo 3, I would go hulk and start terrorizing my local metropolis.
