I'm curious to know if you've seen any of the Madmen series on AMC. I guess you wouldn't be lecturing about the Advertising industry based on Madison Ave 50 years ago but I'm intrigued at some of the subjects they cover in the script and especially some of the products featured in the story lines. Lucky Strike Cigarettes is a big one and it's interesting to me how the show portrays the changing advertising strategies as the FDA crack down on tobacco sales.
Another issue I found very interesting was the firms expansion into to segregated markets. I'm not sure how much it's based on fact but in one case a television manufacturer refused to target African American consumers despite market research that showed great opportunity for sales in urban markets like Harlem, Detroit, Los Angeles etc. They saw themselves as a "white" company and so chose to stick with middling results than to take a chance and be seen as a "black" product. Things have changed in pursuit of the mighty buck.
