If it looks, walks, and talks like a cock-tease ...

Rate this Entry
Battlefield: Bad Company 2:
- no VOIP
- no squad leader
- no team commander
- no armor
- tiny maps
- no teamwork

I consider my money well spent on BC2 -- it's a fun game and I've spent a fair bit of time in it, but ... is it a Battlefield game?
Hell no.

I take it you don't expect teamwork to develop in any significant fashion once VOIP is functional?

I do not see this happening anytime soon.

I wouldn't go so far to say it isn't a Battlefield game. I mean cover the name and you could be describing the original release of BF1942. A step backwards compared to BF2142? Definitely. A step completely out of the brand, almost but not quite.

Yeah but ... considering the fact that DICE owns the Battlefield trademarks/copyrights, the fact that they have competent people, a brand new engine, and the backing of a world-class publisher ... you'd think this would be a better game.

Except when you release the game on consoles, the game gets gameplay and design constraints put in place to be able to make the game playable on consoles.

What he said. To be honest I am drooling over the thought of a BF2142 sequel on the Frostbite engine. Have some maps far off the equator with the heavy snow/frost/shiver effects from Snowblind. Would be dead sexy.

But yeah, for what we're used to the game is subpar. I just wish more people would migrate back to BF2142 but it seems the Shiney, Shiney trumps tactical play.

2142 will get a revive (no pun intended) when the new patch comes out, but when that will be and how long it will last is anyone's guess. It's a catch-22 right now, I would like to play more 2142, but I don't because no one plays it, there's probably at least a full servers worth of other people who feel the same way.

Did this game ever pledge to be the next in the "Battlefield" series? I'm out of the loop so I don't know. I thought this was the Battlefield 3 that had been so anticipated, that's how in the loop I am. I see this as more of a MW competitive product as opposed to a progression of the core Battlefield series. Comparing BC2 to Battlefield 2 or 2142 is like comparing Battlefield Heroes to Battlefield 2 or 2142, they're just different games.

I don't get the "no armor" and "no teamwork"

there is obviously armor most maps. ????

Isn't teamwork something that the players determine and not the game? Most people that find TG are amazed at the teamwork and communication in our games (no voip in BC2 hurts this) but one is not dependant on the other.

There is enough armor for me, but I am a less-armor-is-more type. I have to agree however, with the lack of teamwork point. Although we do a great job at TG of working with what we are given, and are pulling off the best teamwork possible at times, the lack of chain of command, commo rose, move markers, and of course VOIP, severely hamper teamwork IMO. We just aren't getting the tight cohesive teamwork we have in past titles.

I think is there is a lack a balance between armor and infantry. It definitely has gotten worse with the last patch and the tracer dart flying at the speed of light. The only perk I use now for armor is smoke to get rid of the tracer darts. I wish EA would allow the repair tool to remove tracer darts. I guess I can't complain too much though as I have already gone platinum with the heavy and light tanks. The squad structure also doesn't favor creating asset squads. I do enjoy the game and in particular the engineer class but I understand Zho's sentiments.
