  • starting spawn locations: ns2_derelict

    Please read the "mod: starting spawn locations" thread's opening post before posting in this thread.

    The server is now enforcing cross spawns on ns2_derelict. Marines can start in Garage, Western Entrance, Atmospheric Seeding, or Geothermal, and Aliens will spawn directly across the map.

    Do we want to keep this?

    Does anyone have other ideas?

Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

    I think we should just use vanilla settings for a few weeks to a month and see how it fares. No matter what there will be a period of adjustment to the map as people learn it, and the vanilla settings are based on a very large number of internal playtests and were not arbitrarily picked.

      I think we shouldn't enforce cross spawns until we have a good reason to.

          Will someone please tell me what the stock spawn permutations are? I need to add them to our sh_setspawns menu.

            Looking at 30+ games on TGNS, it looks like this map stock-enforces the cross-spawn start locations announced in OP.

            I've re-enforced them on the server so that they'll appear in the sh_setspawns menu during Captains Night.

            To be clear, I've not changed the effective start locations. If the stock ns2_derelict start locations ever change, please post here so that I may update our configuration to match stock.

              Isn't there a way for you to read in the stock spawns from the maps, and only have overrides set where the TGNS community has decided to exclude certain stock spawns? It would avoid the problem on Temple the other day where stock spawns were overridden with the pure tech-point only spawn configuration.

              See, the way vanilla spawns work in NS2 is it looks at the tech points, and which team can spawn where, BUT, if there is an entity (or entities) called "Spawn Selection Override" placed in the level, it chooses randomly from among THOSE spawn configurations.
