  • seeding experiment: 10v10 siege

Let's experiment with siege as a seeding tool.

I've added the following maps (courtesy Brian) to the server (not in votes):

    100% custom maps:
    ns2_hivesiege
    ns2_domesiege
    ns2_bunkersiege

    NS1 siege map conversions:
    ns_siege007
    ns_birdsiege

NS2 maps modified to add siege gameplay elements:
    ns2_tramsiege
    ns2_veilsiege
    ns2_dockingsiege

Our normal, non-siege gameplay remains 8v8 -- 16 players. I don't like excluding anyone from our normal, non-siege play after changing from a 20-player siege map, and I'm (arguably unwisely -- time will ultimately and quickly tell) counting on 20% of the 20 players (that is: 4 players) being interested /only/ in siege play, leaving 16 for our normal 8v8 playstyle. This aspect of the server configuration is risky and certainly may be discarded.

    Feedback/brainstorming welcome.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

Just FYI, I originally put ambient music in many of these maps, and unfortunately the audio volume configuration is broken sometimes. If you find yourself on one of these maps and the music is too loud, go into NS2+ options and disable ambient sounds.

Something worth noting is that Siege seems to work best with lots of players. So it may be a bit odd seeding a normal server by effectively seeding a siege server.

But still, will be interesting to give a try.

It might work okay with bots. There is practically no risk of losing with bots, but it could be fun anyway.

Be wary of adding any maps you don't check out for yourself first. That Kyle creep publishes maps with pornography in them.
