  • HL "Speak" Commands.

    http://www.ticclan.com/tutorials/mus...-commands.html

I use it to notify me of different script changes, like loading a marine or alien script, or toggling between lifeforms.

Also, does anyone know of how to implement custom speak commands? It be nice to create my own little wav files for more customization.

    Re: HL "Speak" Commands.

I don't think its possible, as it isn't a text-speech program (where you can type in any words and it will speak them out). All of these words it lists there were pre-recorded for use inside half-life, so any words\phrases you create out of them will have to be compiled or combined from that list. If you want your own custom .wavs playing, do this:

All you have to do is place your custom .wav files in your half-life\valve\sound\vox folder OR your ns\sound\vox folder. Then just type "speak yourwavfilehere"

    ex)

    speak fatgorge

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^
If you really dig the computer voice-type sounds. You can type in the words you want here and download the .wavs. Here are some sample ones I typed in just to give you an idea (and the mike voice is the sexiest obviously so that's the one I used, although nothing beats british charm while playing NS)

    Samples:

See the 'play' console command (or is it 'mp3'...). It might help.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

Aero, that was exactly what I was looking for! WOOT IT WORKS AWESOME!!!!!! You don't need to replace any of the wav files, you can create your own (marine.wav) and call them up with the speak command!

Wyz, will be looking into that command. I was thinking of tearing apart the script that plays "music" over voicecom.

Hmmm envisions "pat on the back" script. Trigger on killing enemy, "Good job soldier".

Imagine if we started using voice com to give pre recorded messages like "drop an rt please" "at the hive" "fade incoming".

Eliminate the need to actually speak! Your voice could go out at any minute! Record your messages today!

As for squeak's original question, I find that the script that displays text to the screen easier to implement and less distracting than messing around adding your own audio.

Its fairly easy to do. Just place your custom .wav in the vox folder and type speak and the name. Then just incorporate that into your scripts like normal. As for what's more distracting? I guess that depends on the person. I don't have many scripts that I turn on and off in game to worry about (only 3jump that I turn off when lerking).
