  • Identify that NS soundfile...

I was cheking out the Maxim top 5 Mr. Show segments, and when I watched the one for "Coupon the Movie", which was really bizarre, yet really funny at the same time, I thought I kept hearing a certain sound file from Natural Selection, this has been confirmed by a friend who also plays. Go to youtube (because I can't URLs yet here), and type Coupon the Movie - Mr. Show, and tell me what soundfile that is... I'll give you a hint, "Com, I need a medpack, stat!"

I wonder if they credit the NS devs properly for that. I do believe that soundfiles fall under intellectual property laws and any use of them without credit and permission is actionable. Hell, they could sue Mr. Show and fund the development of NS2! (perhaps then we'd see it sooner!)

Take this with a grain of salt. I'm writing this past 4 am.

Actually, I seem to remember something about a group of sound files called "the general 6000." And what it is, is a large assortment of sound files used in all sorts of media things. NS is merely one of them. It's sorta like the Wilhelm scream, only not quite so cool. I'm forgetting any other details right now.

Yeah, IIRC anybody can probably buy a license to a sound library (or however its done) and use those sounds. A lot of the sounds in NS (and even music) can be heard in other mediums due to this.

Yea, its been said a few times on NS.com that they purchased a commercial sound library for the game.

Anyone ever hear the the Doom door opening sound. Its in everything.

That damn scream is so annoying to hear in movies/TV. After hearing it in about 30% of games, it ruins the mood during movies and tv shows because it doesn't even sound human anymore.

Which soundbite is that? I'm not familiar with anything called "wilhelm scream".

Edit: Nevermind, looked it up online.

Kero, you should be ashamed of not knowing the Wilhelm scream, since it's also at the two minute, 45 second mark on Track_12.
