  • Sad Irony

I'm going to the doctor of "Sports Medicine" on friday to look at what I think is a repetitive motion injury from playing too many FPS + typing. A sports doctor.. heh

    Methinks I won't be around for a while. ^^

I had a sprain in my right wrist several months ago, and it hasn't completely healed yet due to my inability to stop playing these games. :icon9:

I'm very sorry to hear about this, Tempest. Best of luck. Let us know what happens with this.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

Squeak:Sometimes I'm awed by zibs genius. Then I remember he's Canadian and I feel significantly less threatened.

How does one know if they have a repetitive motion injury? I.e symptoms.

Pain in the hands and wrists. Tingling, esp while playing. Slow progress on Master's thesis.

I may break out my old laser trackball, but I doubt I'll ever get the same precision. As I recall trackballs were great for fast response, but poor for fine aiming. Perhaps it would work well for aliens.

I think that my visit to the sports doctor makes me an official "cyber athlete". :icon_bigg

you could play with your foot.. i'm sure we could make a mouse that would respond to foot movements :P

Sniper's one of the best shots around.. And he does it with a trackball.

Please post ideas on how to be pro-active with preventing this. Yes, we know all the diagrams with the lady sitting at the exact perfect position, with the overlay of all her angles. Truth is we don't sit like that, for this is not the military.

I've seen people with hand/wrist gloves . I've heard about this new 'horse' with better ergonomics. Using a trackball vs. a mouse. Sad Irony of this situation is it's preventable, from what I know (which isn't much).

This will happen to me. I'm working with computers for a living, gaming at night. Sound like anybody else? Might be 5 years or 10, but having a crippled right hand would not be good as I might have to get a gf.

                    Seriously people. Post thoughts/solutions/ideas/phone numbers.

Hrmm, never had any problem with pain from too much computer work. I just have a plain wireless mouse that I use. It sits right next to the end of my desk, so I have the mousepad draped over the edge a little. Otherwise, my wrist'd be scraping against it. I also have a keyboard-pullout-thingy to rest my elbow on.

                      What was your setup, Tempest?

I use my laptop keyboard with an ECSF configuration (instead of WASD) and a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3. Forearms just above both resting on the armrests of my chair. I'm sure that I'll be well informed on this subject by the time I've seen the doctor and figured out how to correct it. I'll report back with exactly what I did wrong and how to avoid it. I'll try using an ergonomic keyboard + trackball later on and let you know.

Remember kids, repetitive motion injuries can strike anyone, anytime.

Man, if that's a symptom, WAY more of my friends are afflicted with this than not.
