never heard of direct 2 drive?

it's a download service similar to steam...

i bought it from there, you download the files and run the setup, they send you the key via email, and done..

I have bought several games from them, always been really happy. Good prices, great DL speed

I used to eat paint chips. Now I just drink the paint because I couldn't find a salsa that went well with the chips and they were dry =)

Alright, bought. Hopefully the storm that's going on doesn't screw with my download.

they give you a decent download manager that let's you resume and pause the downloads, so i think you should be fine, be aware that the sale will only last for a couple of more hours..

Wow, just wow. This game is a mess! After wading through Rockstar social club and Games for Windows Live just to get into the damn game, the graphics bug out on me. Audio is still there, but just a black screen with the minimap. Trying to adjust the graphics and the mouse blinks all over the screen. Guess it's time to re-install my graphics drivers AGAIN. I doubt they are the problem though.

EDIT: Ok I reinstalled my drivers and it's working now. But man, this thing runs like an fat sloth. I knew this was a big problem with this game but figured my 5870 would laugh this game off like everything else. It does not. It crawls. This is worse than Crysis.

turn down view distance, it really helps a lot

On a 5870 I wouldn't have draw distance or detail distance at higher than 50 (you want to leave a buffer of about 100 MBs of VRAM). I would keep shadows on low or medium (high if really care about them being well defined and black). Night shadows I would just turn off completely. They are rarely noticed in game and right now sucks framerates from any card once turned on.

I'm going to have to push my little brother at getting this. $7.50...man Steam had that a few months back, but it was only for one day.

I installed the latest patch and now the game won't start because a bunch of GFWL dll's got screwed up. Time to reinstall everything.

lol, i don't know why you're having such a hard time,

the only thing i had to do is put the setup.exe from gta 4 itself into windows xp compatibility mode so it'd install under win 7, but other than that it went flawless.

i have an i7 920 + 4870 HD 1GB and run everything on max except view distance and shadows which are both around the middle setting.. oh i also have 6GB of ram which might help a lot too...

Well I think the patch failed because I don't have .NET framework installed or up to the latest version. I don't have it because some time ago, my copy of Windows 7 stopped passing WGA checks thus stopped receiving updates. I'm hoping that it started failing when I threw in my 5850 and hopefully I can a hold of some one at MS to fix this crap without doing a format but that's probably the path of least resistance. Freaking WGA.
