  • Personal Firearm Collections

Growing up, Damonte has always been surrounded by firearms (in a manner of speaking). Parents and grandparents both owned them. He learned to shoot and use the (safely) at at early age. But after moving out and moving around as much as he did for a while, Damonte owned none for a number of years and effectively stepped out of the general firearms community until about a year ago.

Now, Damonte is an owner again and a bit of an enthusiast. He has picked up a few nice items and is looking to selectively add to my personal collection. Damonte is curious what other members of the TG own and hoping that they might share descriptions or pictures of some of their collections with the community. Some individuals might own a few rare or uncommon items that they are proud to share. Damonte is also interested in hearing of what people are looking to acquire. Good discussion all around!

Final Comment: This discussion is not intended to be about the pros or cons of personal firearm ownership, the politics of personal firearm ownership or personal opinions regarding the politics of personal firearm ownership. If someone else wants to discuss this, kindly take it to the Sandbox.

There's a lot of love out there for the Ruger 10/22. Lots of people seem to own then. Damonte has seen some people with large collections that are 80% to 90% rimfire only.

How is the Ruger Mini 14? It's on Damonte's short list of want-to-gets.

The Ruger 10/22 was the first real gun my parents bought me as a child. That's right, I said it, as a child. This was back when guns weren't demonized the way they are now. The philosophy was to teach your children about gun safety and what a big reponsibilty it was.

The way it worked in my family was you started with a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun. When you had proven you could handle it safely, then you got a Crosman Pellet gun. Later on you could have a pellet pistol - that's where the handgun safety came into play. If you had proven yourself competent in all of these weapons, you were then given a Ruger 10/22. No handguns though, that was your choice when you became legal age. This was my Dad's gun safety/responsibility program - it taught me everything I needed to know.

Springfield Armory Model 1899 30/40 KRAG (made in 1901).

It was my grandfather's service rifle.

1, 2, 3. Remington 870 police trade-in, with some goodies. Built it over the course of time very very cheaply, I love it. Very comforting when one crackhead tries to run over another in my yard.

1, 2. Ruger Security Six .357 Revolver. Christmas present from the wife.

Pair of Ruger Vaquero .357 single action revolvers. Because sometimes you need to shoot two things at once.

Me shooting a USPSA match with my Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Pro with Apex Competition spring kit. No pictures, looks like any other tupperware gun on the outside :icon6:

                          Re: Personal Firearm Collections

I just bought my first shotgun 2 years ago, a Stoeger Condor over/under 12 gauge. I use it for hunting pheasants and shooting clays. My wife and I just passed our CCW course and received our licenses last week. I haven't bought a handgun yet. I'm torn between a 1911, FNH FNX-40 or FNP-45, or a Glock 21. And I really like the Springfield XDs too. You can see my dilemma.

My most recent acquisition is a Ruger Mk II .22 in stainless.

It compliments my wife's Browning Buckmark (stock photo).

My short list of want-to-gets are (after removing the Mini-14):
                            Ruger SR9c
                            Marlin 39A
                            CZ P01
                            Sig Sauer P229 (in 9mm)
                            Marlin 336SS

                              Re: Personal Firearm Collections

My favorite is a Henry .22 lever action, but I got a good deal on a very lightly used Springfield M1A over the weekend.

Fallen, that's a nice rig you've got there. I've been looking at a Beretta Stampede off and on. Haven't shot that or the Ruger, but I like the balance and grip of the Stampede better. Have you ever tried one?

Damonte, how do you like the Mk II? That's also on my list. I'd heard the Mk IIIs have issues with seating the magazine, but that's all I see at the stores.
