  • Recommendations for quality automotive head-unit supplier?

Anyone here have recommendations for a decent car stereo?
    Requirements:
    - Stereo BT Audio (A2DP)
    - Variable-volume pre-amp outs
    - Price: <= $200

    Nice, but not necessary:
    - Turnable volume knob > clickable volume buttons
    - HD receiver

    Don't care about:
    - Form factor - single or double-DIN are fine
    - Total power - using external amp for all drivers.

I've owned Pioneer in the past, but... any experiences out there?

Crutchfield has pretty good answers to my questions:

That should link you to the "Outfit My Car" section. Enjoy.

Ended up spending closer to $250 and got a JVC KW-XR810.

Gotta say I'm really impressed. Sound-quality is much better than the stock HU (even on stock speakers and without my sub installed yet).

Best part is the blue-tooth integration! I have an original Droid, running CM7, and it 'just works'. Phone and HU automatically sync-up as soon as I turn the car on. Hit a button on the HU and it starts playing the last song I was listening to when I left the car (magically fires up winamp on the phone). Surprisingly, track << and >> on the HU also work over BT!

One down-side is that the call-quality isn't that great. I don't know how much worse it is than when just talking through a regular BT headset, but... I don't talk on the phone that much anyway :D

A few pics (while I had the dash apart, I turned my suction-cup mount into a dedicated mount compliments of one 8x32 machine screw... also put in another 12V accessory socket behind the radio, so I could have my charger plugged in full-time.)

anyway - if you're looking for a double-din HU, this one get's a huge thumbs up!

Pretty nice headunit. I'm driving a 2005 Chrysler 300 and I desperately need to change out my headunit. I've been looking at Pioneer double-din units, but I'm just not ready to commit that kind of money to it right now. Whenever I do though I'll definitely post pics as well.

Well done on the phone as well. Integrated bluetooth is so nice.
