  • Kittens and vocabulary

I was researching the phrase "carrying water" for another thread (check the Sandbox) when I found this wonderful article on the origins of numerous phrases, as well as some cute photos of rescued kittens.

Ever wondered what "olay" was in "Oil of Olay"? (It's got a military origin!)

How are all the meanings of "draft" (beer, horses, writing) related?

Where did the word "swain" (as in noble boyfriend) come from? (also military)

What's an "ept"? (as in "inept")

    Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

snooggums' density principal: "The more dense a population, the more dense a population."

Iliana: "You're a great friend but if we're ever chased by zombies I'm tripping you."
