  • What's your career?

Are you a student aiming for a specific career or already in a career? Have you switched careers? If so which one?

Right now I'm a college student in between colleges and am a Communications major. I'm not exactly sure what I'll do but I have interests in film and broadcasting.

    What about you?

Student, studying physics. I'm on a general physics course but I've chosen astrophysics modules and I expect I'll continue down that route, with the end goal of (edit: ideally) working for something like the ESA. Space is the place.

I'm jealous, space fascinates me. I wish I could start my college career over with what I know now. That said, I'm happy with where I ended up. I will finish my second undergrad degree in December and start work in January at a manufacturing company as a business analyst. In a nutshell, I will be configuring and maintaining their ERP system (SAP).

I'm currently in the last six months of med school. I will either pursue emergency medicine or hospitalist work after residency.

I'm finishing up my last year of high school, and I'm going to college to study Instrumental Music Education. My goal is (after a few years teaching, a masters degree, a few more years teaching, and PhD) to become a professor/director of a big college marching band, or work for corps in Drum Corps International (Marching's Major League).

Overall I just want to share my love of music with people so they might get the same joy and lessons out of it that I have in my short life. Now excuse me, as I go practice for a few hours...

I am a Banking Business Analyst for a very large insurance company headquartered here in Bloomington, IL. My area of focus is online and mobile banking strategy.

Whatever you start with out of college, don't feel trapped there. I started in healthcare researching various forms of dementia, the state ran out of money so I worked in the restaurant industry travelling the country as a troubleshooter, and then found a home with my current employer who I'll never leave. I enjoyed each one of these jobs and they all contributed to my current state of life which is close to perfect. Enjoy what you do but don't let it be who you are; good luck!

ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. Essentially, it is all of a company's business process integrated into one system. Buying, selling, manufacturing, etc. Are all accomplished through the ERP system. The bigger the company, the bigger the system.

English and psych major. I worked during college doing automotive repair and as a counselor for heroin addicts. Then grad school in cognitive science/perception. After PhD I became a professor and I taught statistics, perception, learning, cognition and intro to psych. I did research on the size distance invariance hypothesis and the role of familiar sized objects in size and distance perception. A year and a half ago I became an independent representative in the automotive aftermarket industry. I handle a few very large accounts on commission only. I act as an account manager, I do installer training, counterman training, sales staff training, marketing, market analysis, sales forecasting, contract negotiations between the buyer and vendor and anything thing else that I think will sell more product. I also go after new business, but my hands are pretty full a the moment. I have 1 employee.
