        Very crazy! Just imagine that happening over NYC, or any heavily populated areas. It would be bedlam.

          Meteor estimated to be the size of 15 meters and exploded around the strength of 300 kilo-tons.

            Wow. Must have been pretty awe struck to have been in that car driving along as this big bus-sized meteor came crashing down. :O

              Revised NASA estimates put it at around 17m across and roughly 9000 tonnes, with the energy released in the explosion of almost 500kt.

              Crazy. A few seconds earlier and it could have been Moscow, or Copenhagen, or Glasgow. Not that anyone would have noticed had it hit Glasgow. ;)

                Little Boy was 16 kilotons and killed 90,000-166,000 persons.

                  As a further reference, Little Boy exploded around 600m (~2000') above the ground, whereas the primary explosion of this meteor is estimated to be around 30-50km (20-30mi) up, hence the long (~3 minute) delay between the observed flare and the shockwave.
