browna3 you have hit it dead on :D

I read this on reddit last night and my first thought was "there goes the neighbourhood!"

I am not a fan of facebook and what it has done to a generation in terms of privacy (as witnessed by seeing how much my nieces and nephews share without thinking). I was hopeful for the Oculus Rift, it seemed like it might be a really awesome new piece of tech. One can only hope that it can continue on its current path of development without too much interaction from its new owner.

With Facebook being a big company trying to make top dollar, I can imagine the consumer product will now be $600 for something made out of tinfoil, toothpicks, and the enamel of third-world child factory workers teeth, encased in a cheaper version of Legos held to your face by twine. Don't worry! They will give those child workers a penny per toofth!

Speaking of privacy, "Now you can broadcast what you are actually seeing! Since we think every consumer is going to love this, but some stubborn people won't, we will have it on by default and give you the option of turning it off within a labyrinth of menus!...well you can turn off one screen or the other. But the other screen will then be shoved full of adds to make up for the lost profit you dirty hippies, you!"

On IGN they talked about it, and promised that it is a piece of gaming tech first, social media second, UH OK. Im sad and angry now. Here comes face book simms VR where you can meet your friends and strangers at the local pub and VR bobby bar where all the boobs will be hanging out, no pun intended.

Guess you can't use the rift for porn now. LoL

                  Re: Facebook buys oculus vr

Just wait and see. Reddit completely overreacted to this news. Sure, Facebook might use it to make some sort of virtual, social world funded by advertising. Frankly they'd be stupid not to. But that can exist alongside real games, and both companies have said Oculus will stay independent and continue on their current path. There is no reason for alarm yet. I'm no Facebook fan, but I'm staying optomistic, because this gives Oculus a lot of resources to make a better product.

                      Re: Facebook buys oculus vr

Right after the deal goes through, Minecraft creator Markus Persson drops all Oculus VR support. That is a pretty big statement right there.
