  • ArmA3 , PR:BF2..which one? Your opinion...

I recently downloaded PR:BF2 as it's now stand alone and doesn't require BF2 anymore.

I also have ArmA3 that I've been farting around in for a year or so but never really taken the time to learn the game properly.

I was playing WoT's a lot but got sick and tired of their MM putting a Tier VI heavy in a Tier VIII battle where you are nothing more than target practice , as well as their 0 damage "criticals" just when you need a few damage point hit to knock out a tank.Throw in lack of communication and you have chaos. I haven't played it for a couple of weeks and have been spending my spare time going over ArmA3 and PR:BF2 as I would like to play online.

I have a problem though..I have limited spare time , BOTH games have a VERY steep learning curve , I have a couple of other sims I play (X-Plane10 and Silent Hunter IV) then throw in browsing porn sites :icon26: , news , and UTube and the hours fly by.Oh and throw in the upcoming "Squad"..:row__633:

So I pose this question to you...

Given the circumstances , which of the two (ArmA3 , PR:BF2) would you dedicate you time to? :row__630: Both are outstanding but I can concentrate on only one.
Or , I could just throw caution to the wind and forget learning the nuances of the games and simply run around blowing things up.:row__591:

BTW - I forgot to mention I'm a retired senior and learning things is tough. I can read a few pages of a manual and by the time I'm done , I've forgotten what I was reading and why..:icon16:

Well, I play both and have for a very long time. You need to try both of them out yourself to see which one suits you best. There is no one reason why anyone would like one over the other. Its just personal preference. So, my advice is to just play both for a few hours and see which one you like the best.

If I can do Arma 3, you can do it too. The learning curve is not really that steep, it is a matter of playing enough to where the keybinds become second nature. Arma is the only multiplayer game that I play so I can not give you an honest opinion of which game would be better for an old fart like you.

Ah, if ever there was a pitch so perfect for batting a few quips out of the park...but I must refrain. Someone always could take it too serious.

Both really great games as you know. Both have a lot to learn if you really want to but both have a great group of players that will be more than willing to walk you through the menus you need to know, when you need to know them.

I think the only way to choose one over the other is likely to flip a coin if you have to or do what Kwalc suggests and play 'em both. Of course, your impressions of either can have more to do with your company and that can just be luck of the draw depending on the night. I only mean that every group has it's ups and downs so it can be difficult to judge.

If your just waiting for Squad to really go then you might be better off with PR since it has TG players regularly into TvT already. Where otherwise, in ArmA, we are still working on getting the numbers here to eventually support a TvT server in the future. I guess that would be your real decision is do you want TvT or Coop more?

^^^This is basically what it comes down to.

(On a side note, I had no idea that PR was now a standalone that did not require BF2! If nothing else, thanks for making this thread, because now I am downloading it!!!)

My past experiences in PR were as TvT co-op (ie: the team communicated , took directions from squad leaders and we worked as a unit) but that was so server /player dependent. Some games were phenomenal , others felt like CoD SP. I spent some time on the TG server , as well as a couple of other well run ones but these are all gone now.

PvP or Co-op doesn't matter. I'm basically looking for team cohesion and to play with a group of like minded individuals. Scores aren't my primary objective. Participation and trying to do my best in game is the objective.Win or lose doesn't matter. It's how you play the game.

After giving it more thought and reading the comments , I'm thinking that a logical approach would be to play both then decide. As ArmA3 has great AI I can also learn what I need in the editor/playing SP missions and for PR , pick a simple class to start and follow directions (I'm used to that after serving a few years).

See ya on a server soon..

If you'd ever like to squad up and play PR, let me know.

Since I am just getting back into it, I need some friends to play with.

Or if you want to play ArmA, for that matter :D
