Heres what i dont understand, was does Dell actually have to gain from this besides the name, or is that enough. Its not like alien ware makes hardware or software. Everything they put into there machines is available to anyone includeing Dell. Just seems like a waste to me.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

How a waste? They were a direct competitor to dell's high end stuff.

It's all about cache: The XPS line tries, and barely, competes with Alienware's rigs. So Dell gets a legitimate high end gamer subsidiary, and can basically go back to peddling the crap-component systems they are famous for. Goodbye XPS.

But then how long before Alienware calls Texas and says, we need more motherboards for the Area, and they reply: "Sure, help yourself from the Dimension bin!"

So both computer lines are gonna do down hill, sounds like the perfect solution

Well I will just stick with building my own gaming computers. Cheaper, better, and easier to upgrade when you built it yourself.

Re: Dell Decides: If You Can't Beat Them, Buy Them!

I posted this yesterday in my hardware news. However I didn't put this in. http://voodoopc.blogspot.com/ This is Rahul Sood's weblog. He first claimed that Dell would buy Alienware also he put up a list of what he thinks are the possible outcomes.

Actaully at this point I think they are going to keep the XPS line. Its not like the XPS line is aimed at gamers anymore well not completely. At this point its just to get the special XPS support.

Agreed, its better to build your own game system (for much cheaper as well)
